Challenges the only way to unlock weapons

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:05 am

I don't know if this is new info but it was new to me, according to the new smart video, the only way to unlock weapons is playing through the challenges.
So this means we won't be able to unlock new weapons by playing against each other online. Honestly I don't like this at all.

I think you unlock attachments from challenges, but weapons are unlock from multiplayer.

I'm pretty sure it was confirmed awhile ago. In any case I actually like it, it makes sure that the people with the nice guns actually earned them

I guess we'll have to hope that the challenges are really awesome, cuz I know playing online with my friends will be. :)

All I want to know is how to get hats or where I can buy hats or if there is some box/key systems in which I can find new hats.

I thought it was common knowledge that guns were gained via challenges?

This is the first confirmation that challenges are the ONLY way to unlock weapons and attachments.

We already knew they unlocked things, we didn't know whether some items would come from just leveling up. Now we know they won't.

False. Not only has that never been said, but I know for a fact that SD wouldn't do that since they decided against giving you extra XP for playing MP since some people don't have online access. Making weapons unlocked through multiplayer would shut off some people from making progress, myself possibly included.

We knew that customization options (clothes for your character) came from ranking up, while challenges unlocked weapons and attachments. This was stated in the very first iteration of HORSE's compendium.

Since you have to level up to earn a light or heavy body, I think you will start with 1 smg and 1 ar and have to earn the rest.........throught challenges

key word in his statement was only. theres only 12 challeges right? (3 difficutlies and 4 challenges) that would seem that alot is unlocked from completeing one challenge. also does anybody know where weapon skins are unlocked? (im guessing they unlock by lvling up).

I doubt it. I think all but 5 or 6 weapons will be unlocked from the very beginning; maybe there's one gun missing from every category (sidearm, shotgun, assault rifle, smg, sniper, heavy weapon). There are only 4 challenges, which are broke up into three difficulties; furthermore, only the first two difficulties unlock things.

And they are not going to force you to play challenges to unlock weapons, it is only to unlock a few more options. They are optional, not necessary.

Edit: @ Riddike
Again, the majority of weapons will be unlocked from the beginning. Its not Call of Duty where you have one of every weapon type unlocked and have to unlock everything else. Weaponry options will be available from the get-go, so someone can jump into a game right away.

I'm pretty sure there will be more than that.

At least 2 ARs, at least 2 SMGs, at least 1 Shotgun, POSSIBLY one LR, and definitely at least one semi-auto Pistol. There's probably at least a few startup attachments too - between 0 and 2 for each location would be my guess.

I don't have any hard facts to back this up, but I doubt any less would be provided to start with.

I think that each challenge might unlock one weapon and one attachment, so you'd only unlock 8 weapons by doing all the challenges...there's no way Splash will force its customers to play Spec-Ops type challenges to make the actual game playable.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
TF2 got to the point of ridiculousness. For safety's sake, I never want to see unlockable/purchasable/discoverable hats ever again.
