A change of clothes

Post » Sat Feb 05, 2011 7:09 am

Hi all

Thanks for the help. I have never before used the GECK. I want to change the clothes of some the NPCs who are already in the game. I have no idea how this is done.
I really appreciate your help.

Could you define a bit more what you're trying to do? eg, you want a companion to wear something that their default armor DT is preventing them from equipping?
Or something else?

I want to change the clothes of some of the named NPC on the streets in New Vegas to something a little more appropriate. They are some of the people with whom you can inter act though Dialogue. I am looking to change their clothes into something a bit more modest. I am not looking to make new cloths, just change their default outfits with other clothes already in the game.

Thanks again for your help

Ah. I'm guessing a modesty mod?
I'm not entirely sure on that one. My guess is you'd have to find the NPC/s in question in the list, look at their inventory list, delete their random outfit package objectID and replace it with another. Or perhaps you can just alter what's to be included in that objectID package instead (eg if it contains a prosttute Outfit, delete those & put in OutfitFormalWear instead). But I'm not sure if that's the 'proper' way to do it, I've never tried to alter the more generic npc outfits. Maybe someone has a better answer...but that would be what I'd personally try first.

If you're concerned about the street yellers/dancers in Freeside/New Vegas, there's not only them, but lots of not-unique, non-named ones inside at least one of the casinos too...you'd have to alter their base template/objectID packages as well. You might want to look around on the Nexus, it's possible someone already made some kind of clothing modesty mod. I know it can be hard to find specific mods using their Search tho. :/

Edit: And if modesty wasn't actually your concern...it's still the same concept. Find the NPC in the NPC list, alter their inventory.

The change is simple.

Open the FalloutNV.esm in the GECK.

Open the actors folder, and click on the NPC folder.

Click the 'name' column header to sort by name. Now scroll down until you find the name as its displayed in the game when you interact with them. Double-click on this NPC 'object' to open its properties window.

Click on the 'Inventory' tab in that window. Delete the armor they have and add the one you want to use. (click on /Items/Armor/ in object window and drag armors from the list to the NPC's inventory tab.)

You may need a clean save game to see the changes.
