Changing my Allegiance

Post » Tue May 27, 2014 11:03 am

I sided with the Stormcloaks earlier on in my current game, and I have made a lot of progress since then.

As the Stormcloaks I have gone as far as capturing Whiterun but after looking around Windhelm and looking at the treatment of my fellow Dunmer, I was hoping that I could do anything to change my side.

I read that if you are heavily one sided in the peace discussions, then the side you were in favor of would allow you to join them, but it may have been changed.

If that is true or there are any console commands that would work it would be very appreciated.

Thanks

The only way to change sides is by taking the jagged crown to the opposite leader.

Edit: You could roleplay that your Dunmer is trying to earn the respect of the citizens of Windhelm.

My last Dunmer was a Stormcloak, as she hated the Thalmor and the Empire for personal reasons, and (while she did feel that Dunmer were clearly ill-treated in Windhelm) she felt that Skyrim did have a right to rule itself rather than having to remain part of the Empire. She was also impressed by Ulfric's passion, even more than she was unimpressed by his apparent lack of care for how her fellow Dunmer were treated in his city. I think she hoped to impress him enough to persuade him to allow her to work in Windhelm to improve relations between Nords and Dunmer (and Argonians, and...) She was also quite fond of Niranye after hearing her tell one of the Talos-worshipping Nords (can't remember who) that she had a friend who could help that person and their family escape if it came to it.

I read an in-game book that somewhat justifies Ulfric's treatment of the Dunmer. The message of the book is not entirely for or against the influx of Dunmer refugees into Skyrim. It says that Dunmer refugess are OK for as long as they become functioning, productive members of Nord society.

It points to the Dunmer refugees in Riften to illustrate how Dunmer refugees should assimilate into Nord society, then contrasts this with the Dunmer of Windhelm, whom the author holds responsible for the decline of the city of Ysgramor - and one of the oldest cities in Skyrim - into the squalid state it is in now. It even refers to the Argonians of the Windhelm docks in a good note, and asserts that the Dunmer of Windhelm should follow in their example.

I'm not sure you're supposed to take that book as anything but kind of biased, tbh, it's like the kind of stuff that used to be written (sometimes still is) about immigrants in the UK, US, etc. And the Argonians in Windhelm are being massively exploited... The fact is, the Dunmer of Windhelm were never really given the chance to become part of Windhelm's wider society, they were shoved into the Grey Quarter and left to rot.

Fair point. Come to think of it, I think I found the book in the Treasury of Markarth, which is Thonar Silver-Blood's home. The Silver-Bloods are Stormcloak sympathizers.

I used to think they brought it on themselves since an Altmer managed to integrate herself into the city's life, so why can't they?

Then I learned what it is NIranye actually does for a living. lol

Ha, I did not know that! Hastily backed away from Massive Spoilers, but still, heh, pretty cool. I like Niranye.
