Changing class on the fly

Post » Sat Jul 10, 2010 3:38 am

Can someone explain how the classes work? Do you choose one then design your character? Are you stuck with one or can you switch your kit like in battlefield? I saw in one video, although they mentioned it was singleplayer, you could switch your kit on the fly. But how does this apply with your character in multiplayer?

Each class has different abilities. The body types determine what weapons you can use. You can change class at the CP or after you are dead.

Oh, so you customize one character, and you can change your body type and class right?

- The game features abilities which can be unlocked by players to use.
- There are 5 categories for abilities - Soldier, Medic, Engineer, Operative and General. The 4 class categories feature abilities that will only be available if you play that class - So if you unlock Soldier abilities and then play Medic, you can now only use Medic skills. The General category of abilities will be available all the time, regardless of class.
- Classes are not locked din, so you never have to worry about being stuck using a class you do not like. Classes can be changed in-game via Command Posts, and before every respawn.
- Abilities are purchased using credits, which are separate from xp. When you level up, you will be able to purchase 1 new ability.
- You can only ever bring 3 active abilities into a game, regardless how many you have unlocked. The number of passive abilities you have, are determined by your level.
- Body types cannot be changed in-game - that wouldn't even make sense, but they did say you can change them between missions.
- Currently, there are 50 skills total (10 per category) and the max lvl is 20, so you will not be able to have every skill available.

So basically, any skills you unlock, you always have, but you will only be able to use them in certain situations (no soldier skills if you're playing medic, etc.)

Let's say you name your character Bob

Bob is a Medium Character, you wish to start the round as a Soldier, but oh no! Your team needs Medics, so you take Bob to a Command Post, and change your class, Bob is now a Medic :>

*Unable to change body type in a game, also unable to change body type at all, when you choose bodytype for a character, it's cut in stone, he is x (medium, heavy, or light), and nothing will change that, no matter how many burgers he eats or if he gets an eating disorder.

If I only I could eat unlimited burgers and not gain any weight in real life.

From a Q&A with Richard Ham at CoG:

Q: Have you decided whether or not players will be allowed to change body types or factions, or are these choices permanent? If I create a second character to explore some of the other options, does he then start over at level 1, or does my XP carry over across all my characters?

A: You can change class at any time during a mission using a Command Post, and when you’re between missions, you can change your body type via the appearance customization options.

Just go here. http://www.fragworld.org/frag/community-blogs/brink-info-pt-1-story-gameplay-smart-classes-and-objectives.html

And you'll learn everything you need to know and it'll avoid you making about 20 of the additional threads you'll inevitably make.

You should have my metabolism then. I eat a full meal at 11pm and I wake up half past six hungry ;(

Got it sorta under control now though

I feel your pain..... my metabolism is ridiculously fast too. They say you shouldn't eat before bed but I do it anyway. Unlimited burgers is a bit too much though.
