Changing classes as a mission

Post » Sat Oct 23, 2010 12:24 am

While watching the newest movie on classes, they mentioned how if no one is a class needed to complete an objective, then it would create a mission to go change classes to the needed one. What is to stop players from abusing this for XP. Couldn't some XP farming player just accept the mission, change classes, earn XP, switch class again, then accept mission again to change class... repeat ?

Something makes me doubt the reward will be that whopping, and all missions are on a time limit, they would lose eventually. Equally possible is that once you complete that mission, it either won't be available, or you won't get xp for completing it.

no you cant just keep switching, if the current objective needs a certain class and there are none in the field you will get some xp for switching to said class, not give'n xp every time you switch

^^^ What they said!
Also who the hell is going to do that in the first place. That's a boring way to gain experience. That's buying a game, to not play the game.

If it was possible, you know atleast someone would do it

GLADLY IT DOES NOT GIVE YOU EXP EVERY TIME YOU SWITCH CLASS

So, you can change your class and weapon but not your Bodytype/look right? Mid mission anyway.

When you choose your bodytype for the match it will stay like that during the whole course of the match

Ok cool. I'd hate it otherwise. Chasing down a Light, "Hey Guys, got him cornered in the CP room, I'll get him." "EEEEKK A HEAVY!!!" :bolt:

I also was wondering about what the op saw.

Basically say the game needs a medic so you can get the objective to switch to the medic. You do this get the xp and switch back to operative. Will the objective to switch to medic come back thus opening up an avenue for abuse? I assume there is something in place to stop that.

Cool down timer on how often you can change class? Or a very low reward for changing class..like ten exp or something like that.

Yeah i dont see how you would see this as a way to exploit the game. Obviously after you switch to the class thats needed for the objective, i mean i would think you would go back to the class you originally wanted to play/learn. Not like youre going to be in a match full of soldiers and gonna have to keep switching to complete objectives.

Or a nice squared off back I can bury a round into. Better work on that serpentine pattern.

Listening to a couple of the dev interviews, it sounds like they've paid attention to XP exploiting situations. I imagine they'll have some kind of deterrence for that sort of thing.

Come to think about it, if someone just switched classes and just farmed for exp, it just means they would be betraying the team by not actually getting the mission done. Which in turn makes the other side win, and they walk out with a nice exp haul with little to no effort.

That and there must be a cooldown when switching. Also the possibility that you are down one Command post because someone is using it. Just all speculation on my previous two statements. There is a chance that we would have a situation back in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, where we would have to do some booster justice.

Who knows? :unsure2:

In a game where only 3 shots count as a kill, you are completely right. But as we all know, Brink is not that game.

I wouldn't do anything like what I brought up. I was just worried because if someone can find a way to abuse the system, they will. But yeah, I have faith in SD.

I hope it is not a cool down on class changing. I can see in the heat of battle accidentally selecting the wrong class and then getting screwed. Also you could switch to a class only to realize a friend/teammate already switched and thus wasn't really needed.

I also hope the xp isn't too small, otherwise the greedy people might not actually change to the classes. For it to actually be a working incentive, it has to be worthwhile.

I see two ways of it not being a problem.

1) Cooldown on the objective for switching classes. People then could switch real quick, get a bonus xp and then switch back. This would only be a minor problem since it wouldn't be worth switching a lot as a boosting tactic.

2) Small to no xp reward, but actually you get a bonus to xp earned from that specific class actions. That is to say if you switch to a medic, you get even more xp for healing and reviving and such. This way you actually get rewarded for playing as that class, not just switching.
