I actually googled this before posting, but couldn't find an answer, though I expect a lot of people have this problem.

I'm getting to the point where I'll be using hand loader (for the first time), but I noticed that the game doesn't remember the last ammo type used when switching weapons. Instead, it always switches to vanilla ammo. I read that if the weapon is on a hotkey it would remember, but that doesn't seem to be the case for me. Is there anyway to keep it from changing ammo on me? Thanks.

It doesn't remember. Up on the D-Pad changes ammo types if on console, I think it's 2 on keyboard. That is the hotkey to change ammo but it doesn't remember. If you're out of vanilla, it defaults to AP or HP etc.

If you play on PC, http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/37090 does that. And also prevents automatical reloading of weapons when you unequip them.
