Changing mouse camera look in 3rd person

Post » Fri May 25, 2012 3:45 pm

Hi all,

I was wondering if the following is possible to change or to be modded:

When character is in 3rd person view if character is not moving, I can freely rotate camera without my character moving (following the camera look). But when character is moving, that is not the case.

Is it possible to change it?

It would be very nice to, for example, be able to move forward with the W key and to freely rotate camera around character, while character continues to have same direction. It is done in a few games I am playing. It would be great in Skyrim because of great landscapes. I like to move with walking speed and just look around the world.

To simplify I would like to have freely movable camera around character when character is moving.

I hope this will be possible.

Best and thanks to anyone who manage to mod it.
Best,
Aarionn

I'll second that. I loved walking through town or on the road in Morrowind and Oblivion and rotating my camera to see my character walking along.

Lots of kudos and gratitude if this is possible.

I see that there is no great need for this to be solved as I see lots of people have more serious problems.

I was thinking that maybe it will not be possible to change camera if it is hardcoded in the game. But than again, possibility to rotate camera freely in 3rd person mode is already there when character is not moving. Now if mod would just ignore that the character is moving (ie. that movement key is pressed) .... it should work?

Unfortunately, I am too old to start to learn how o mod TES games... I hope someone else with more knowledge will help.

I am sorry to bump this but I will not do it more than once per day. I would really like some comet from experienced modders if this camera change would be possible at all.

Thx in advance,

I'm guessing the reason there is no free look mode while walking is the it is done in most games by holding down one of the mouse keys. Since both keys are used for the two hands, this makes it a little more difficult for Skyrim.

I'm gonna go quickly try something to see if I can make it work, but I'm pretty sure that this would require a script extender to change.

Ok... That didn't work. This will be something you will probably have to wait for.

Thepal, thank you very much for response.

Yes you are right that in most games it is done by pressing one of the mouse keys. I noticed that mouse scroll click is not used at all, and maybe that would be solution?

Thx very much for looking into this :). It would mean very much for me (and I presume for a lot of other people) if this would be possible to mod.

Mouse scroll click was what I was thinking too. I looked at a few things I had seen to see if I could set it up to work, but there doesn't seem to be a way as far as I can tell. I'll keep thinking about it.

I'd like to see the free look mode while walking feature implemented into Skyrim. I love to see the game from different angles while playing and taking interesting screenshots —not only of the landscape but of my characters too.

If screenshots is all you are after, you can use the command TFC to detach the camera and fly around.

I'd love a mod like that as well, but more for video making - the closest thing I saw for Oblivion was Ronin's Oblivion movie director, but that relied on OBSE.

Just throwing it out there. ;D

Yeah, I'm very disappointed with the new vanity camera as well. They broke it bad enough in FO3, but it is now even worse. At this point, I don't think I'm going to be able to make my Enable Free Look mod for Skyrim now. Its sad because the developers even contacted me just after Skyrim was announced so I could explain to them how they broke it in FO3. I guess they had other ideas.

Yeah, I'd like the third person camera to work like it did in Oblivion/Fallout--you face whichever direction your mouse is aiming, and you hold down the "change POV" key to rotate/free look (which has the added bonus of letting you walk in a different direction from the way your camera is pointing if you use WASD).

The new camera is much better for 3rd person combat, so I wouldn't want to see it removed entirely. I do find myself wanting to pan around my surroundings quite a bit while walking around though.

We'll have to wait and see how complicated the camera controls are, as well as how much is hard coded before we know how possible it is to alter this though.

Kodiak that's what I had in mind. I would not encourage that current camera is changed as I see it good for a 3rd person combat (I personally fight only in 1st person), but as an addition. As I mentioned previously it could be maybe activated by pressing middle (wheel) mouse button.

I have really high hopes that it could be done when construction set is out. I really like to just walk through this beautiful land of Skyrim and this camera addition would help me enjoy game eve more.

Hmmm I just found this under Skyrim.ini file about camera settings>

Now I am not able to find whether it can help to make camera to move freely in 3rd person mode. Maybe someone with more knowledge could look into it? Thx in advance.

After some fiddling and looking at some older camera commands, I may have found some good (and bad) news.

The good is that the old style vanity cam should be possible. The console command "animcam" allows for free rotation while moving still, so that hasn't been removed from the game. It just doesn't have a way to activate or toggle at the moment, which is likely due to the ridiculous UI design and absolute lack of thought into the PC port.

The bad news is that we will need to have that extra command set to a hotkey, which will require the script extended. I'm not sure if it will toggle correctly atm, since in the exhausting 45 seconds I tried I couldn't switch the command off, but that should only be a minor speedbump.

I was attempting to do this myself, along with creating a better third person view and attempting to improve the horse riding view, which turns out has it's own slew of problems. If any clever chaps are around perhaps they can take a poke at my tweaks and see if they can achieve both.

Now that SDK have been released, I am bumping this in hope someone could make a mod that would add this camera option.

Thank you very much in advance.
