Changing my playing style

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 12:29 am

No matter what character I create, I seem to always end up in the "hit things with a big sword, take expensive items, make potions to get well and carry lots of stuff" mentality.

I always end up levelling the same way (increase strength and endurance and one other I get a good multiplier on) and replying on enchanted stuff.

I really want to change this and would like to set some RP rules that might stop me from sinking into the same old ways. I must admit that I do love collecting unique and magic items so maybe that's the problem!! Can anyone suggest changes I could make? I was thinking that someone who doesn't like nicking offerings from tombs might be a start...

Thanks!

Create a magic/stealth based character and don't allow yourself to use any training, you'll be less likely to increase your strength or endurance if you never use any skills that increase that multiplier. You could also decide to roleplay more and not use any knowledge that your character wouldn't have to gain advantages. Establish a sense of some "moral code" that your character would follow and stick to it.

Not shure how this would go. I tired it and found it no fun, but was realistic.

1. You have to eat at lest 3 times a day.
2. You can only carry one bow, and one Big Swoard and a small knife
3. A max of 5 potions wich you can only drink one at a time, every minute. After drinking, you can't swing a weapon after 30 seconds, because this would be you opening the cap and drinking it down. I ended up going to 10 seconds, and then not using it since I kept dying all the time . :sadvaultboy:
4. If you want to go swimming, you have to empty you inventory and swim naked or in your undies depending if you modded or not.
5. You have to sleep at least 8 hours.
6. After combat if badly wounded you sleep or rest 24 hours or more depending on how badly you are wounded, unless of course you have magika to heal yourself. But still mentally you will be drained so you should be sleeping 24 hours. I can't remember if you can wait in Morrowind.

Here are some ideas. Maybe they will work for you.

*edit*

7. You can't carry everything unles you are imaging you have magic pockets, or you are imagining you have a hoarse and cart and then therefore you have to remember what you are really carring on you, and the rest of your inventory that you have is inaccesible since it's on the cart away from you.

Stop playing like You.
Make a character that you're not familiar with and stick with the role-playing aspects it brings. If that makes no sense, then you don't know how to roleplay very well. ;)
Join a Guild or House you're not familiar with, or play a character that only does Misc quests.
Basically, you are only limited by your own imagination.

Some mods that will help take your character in new directions are:

Use spears and crossbows.

Only carry what you would realistically be able to carry.
