Changing Race in game

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:41 am

Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible to change my character into a different race using a custom race from a mod. There are several race mods that I am interested in using as my character but I am not interested in starting a new game. I want to change my race but I want to use my existing savegames, quests, etc. I want to change my appearance, stats, powers, etc. to that of a different race. Is this possible and how would I do it? Thanks if you can help.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Console

(find "showracemenu" on that page [without quotation marks] and make sure you take note of what it says alongside the entry)

edit: Actually, this one's more comprehensive -> http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/ShowRaceMenu

As noted in the links above, changing race is going to reset your stats, but for purely cosmetic changes of the race you already have - To avoid any re-setting of stats ...

Do not start this procedure with your inventory open, otherwise when it comes to saving the save option will be ghosted un-available.

1) Open the console, type showracemenu, then hit Face, then Reset. (Don't touch sliders if using a custom race which is best with its default reset values).

2) Don't close console, or type closeallmenus, and dont hit Done, - Otherwise all your stats will be reset

3) Press Esc, then make a new save.

4) Use Wrye Bash to reimport your old PC's face settings into the new save game (if required)

5) Reload new save game

Also note...

After 1) you can make further adjustments - For anyone wanting to change hair/eyes

After 3) you can Load the save you just made to see the changes in-game straight away. If you dont like the changes you can hit Esc again, load the save before the one you just made, and start at 1) again, when you get to 3) this time overwrite the new save you made first time round. Rinse and repeat until happy.

Good. I think I understood all that. Thanks for the info. Just one more question if possible - Is it possible to keep my stats from my original savegame but add the perks/powers of the new race?
