Changing the Mages' Guild

Post » Tue Dec 24, 2013 3:07 pm

I've seen a lot of people who, like me, support a more "scholastic" mages' guild, so I'd like to see some figures.

How many people would like a less quest-oriented and more learning-oriented guild? And vice versa.

Remember that this doesn't mean the mages' guild questline would be deleted, rather it could merely be less focused on, or perhaps absorbed into an actual school-oriented storyline comparable to the master-quests and the ward session (of which I'd like your opinion), only extended and contiguous. Of course, there would still be supplementary side-quests. This is a mystical organization after all; it has its secrets.

Personally, many secrets of the

Midden were very enjoyable to me and I'm sure to others, and I'd like to see more of this work being done.

Additionally, I understand the Mages' Guild is dissolved. I'm referring to any guild befitting a mage in saying the mages' guild.

As always, feel free to critique any of my work. Thank you.

I suppose this could be in The Elder Scrolls Series discussion, but I did want to relate it to Skyrim as Skyrim is our most previous reference point for the mages' guild.

Well, technically the mages guild is gone and the college has nothing to do with it.

I made sure to reference that in my main post.

Hence the use of no capitalization.

Yes, a nice healthy balance.

Yes. Moar!

A good way to handle it so the learning sessions don't become "redundant." Have the game check your skill progress and what-not. You advance by displaying skill. If you join mid-late game and already are proficient in magic, you can tell the instructor, prove yourself[maybe a non-lethal duel or something?] and skip most of the classes you do not need.

I think this is actually required, otherwise it just feels fake. Of course, the most important thing needed is story-line pacing and average writing skills... Both of which the guilds in general in Skyrim lacked.

And of course, freedom to study conjuraton and necromancy. Or else I'll burn the damn guild down. :stare:

Well, I'm sure the Volkihar Clan wouldn't mind you, studying conjuration & necromancy -as long as you don't want to study on them

Some very good ideas there and things that can fit into every TES VI guild.

I would love more learning, and have adventure here and there; but in the form of exploring ruins (like saarthal) and trying to find rare alchemical ingrediants

Yes. I loved the very beginning of the College quest. I got this whole Hogwartsy feel... and then that just stopped, way early on, and everyone suddenly were relying on me to be their hero and save the day. And then... BAM! Archmage! Wait... I've hardly had any proper classes, and I'm not even a very capable magician yet.
