Changing the sounds

when replacing the soundfiles from morrowind, is it important to keep the original lenght?

when i replace the "fireH" sound with a longer soundfile (~5sec) then i often hear no impact sound until the previous one faded out.
another problem is with the ghostfence sound wich i totaly screwed up.

so should better use exactly the same sound lenght for the replacements, or is it just some types of sound wich cause problems when using different long sounds?

cant sounds of the same type be played at the same time at all, or just not from the same soundsource?
because i believe i heard multiple fireH sounds when in battle with an npc.

edit: is there a list of all the unused soundfiles like the different footstep sound with no use? i would love to clean out all the unused sounds before i start modding.

thanks!

I've played round with looping ambient sounds and the length of those didn't matter. For something like casting/weapon strikes though it'd make sense to try to stick to the original length for the reasons you've given.

yes envirnmental sounds seem to work nicely and the ghostfence is even not working good in vanilla...

i have another little question:
shouldnt sounds like the ashstorm be in stereo? because vanilla sounds are in mono and i thought that wind sounds are not placed into the gameworld and so should be stereo, is this correct?

if this is correct - should those watersounds for lakes and the ocean (watr_lake & watr_wave) be in stereo too or are these soundfiles in the gameworld (if you can understand me...)
