Chaper One: Trails and Trials, Part II

Elissandre was surprised when Amand admitted he was the one who summoned the lich. And probably that last zombie too. Damn cretin found himself a new toy and grows so fond of it he just can't keep it in his pocket...

With some effort she leashed back her temper, turning to face the somewhat embarrassed mage and walked straight to him. Poking an accusatory finger at his chest and speaking in the ice-cold tone of controlled fury.

"And why did you feel any need to call that cursed thing ? We're fighting some damn undeads and holding our own, and you just bring in one without warning, straight where he can't do much good but will sure looks like an attempt to strike in in the back."

while speaking, a corner of her mind was busy preparing a spell. Not a complex one, though the mostly mental casting made it far more of a drain than it ought to. Even it it was intended as a last ditch defense against close attack, it should work against a mage without much experience of physical confrontations.

As she finished her last sentence she closed her eyes, the minute motion activating the spell. A dazzling burst of light exploded into Amand's face. Which Elissandre immediately followed with a punch thrown into his face with all the strength she could muster. Hoping to hit him hard enough to send him down, or at lest knock some sense into his head and make him more receptive to well deserved tongue lashing..

As soon as Elissandre fired the spell and sent her fist flying, Arnand yelped and cast the chronomatic spell. His body lurched backawards several meters, but the spell dazzled him, and he buckled and fell down into the bottom of the canyon. He was almost unconcious (It was a long drop).

Arnand quietly began casting healing spells, before levitating back up and brushing the dust of his clothes.

"I don't know." he said. "I've always been fascinated by liches."

Tucharon felt a surge of anger at hearing that his own companion had summoned the lich that could have killed him. He grabbed his sword and began to unsheathe it, but quickly paused. He himself was guilty of similar screwups, except his own mistakes had been fatal to others. With this in mind, Tucharon felt a sense of calm and even some guilt at having become angry at the chronomancer.

"Calm yourself Elissandre, it was an accident. A relatively common accident among us mages." He didn't want to see this escalate into violence, especially given that he knew that they had to learn to forgive mistakes, especially given how likely it would be that he himself would screw up again somewhere along the line.

Frocing her breath into control Elissandre calmed down. Seeing the arm the mage had inflicted on himself getting out of the way helped too. Even if the cretin's admitted fascination with liches made her dubious about the effectiveness of the accident. I can't believe he could get that sort of power with even less common sense than the Gods gave to a goose. He ought to have killed himself long ago. Maybe be it's something with the way the Mages train their own, shielding them against the consequences of screwups...

"Oh don't worry I wasn't going to try gutting him. Just hoping to knock some shred of sense into his head.". She turned to face Amand once more. "There's something I'd like to know. Why the hell did you summon some damned uneads of all things ? As far as I know most necromancers don't summon their minions, they build them up, so you're at least somewhat good with summoning. And there's plenty of creatures you could have used rather than the damn rotten things - an ogrim to make skeleton splinters, a clanfear for zombie ribbons... that sort of things."

Luna turned towards the one that had just admitted to summoning the lich but before she could give him a peace of her mind Elissandre hit him. "sorry about accusing you for summoning the lich" she said turning back to Dro'Zar "I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions". Once the idiot had levitated himself back up Luna walked over to him forcing a smile "It's just occured to me that we haven't actually been introduced" she said offering him her hand" I'm Luna, and you?"

When Elissandre questioned about the lich, Dro'Zar stayed quiet and waited to see if Arnand would fess up to it being him, which he was glad that he did. It showed that he wasn't afraid to admit his mistakes even if he himself didn't think them to be mistakes. He watched carefully as the verbal fight broke out, starting with Elissandre who was obviously feistier than she first appeared, but wasn't hot-headed enough to start a brawl which apeased the mysterious Khajiits intrigue.

Then Luna appologised toward Dro'Zar, making him chuckle ever so slightly.

"Fear not, i wasn't insulted; for it was not me." He said quite simply.

--------------------------

Korro all the while was sat crosslegged on the floor like a little kid, a ways away from anyone else but all the while watching Dro'Zar intently and scratching his ear.

--------------------------

"Many of you wander why you are here yes? Why did i choose you? The answer is simple, you are here because you came here, and i did not choose you for you chose yourself. I simply spread the rumor to see who would follow it and journey so far on a whim and a hope, and now i am looking at them." He explained in a slow and slightly preaching tone, hoping he wasn't losing his would-be allies.

"Now that you are all here though we can begin, but i assume you all wish to know what exactly we are to do. My goal..." he began, with the emphasis on himself "... Is to build up a new empire, the one we had has now crumbled and is thusly pulling down all that we have strived to create with it. Do not get me wrong, i do NOT wish to be a ruler of any kind, i simply wish to help create a land where we can all live and work." he took a few moments silence to let his rather odd statement to sink in

Tucharon responded, somewhat surprised. "A new Empire? What exactly do you mean by that? And how would we go about building up this new empire?"

Tucharon was confused; this vampire couldn't possibly be referring to conquering Tamriel, such a task was far beyond them. And even establishing relative peace couldn't be easy; there was so much to do.

"Isn't it obvious?" stated a weak Arnand. "We can't go into full-scale war. But there are subtler methods, such as thievery or, if it comes to it, secret assassination. I think we should give it all we have for this new world, even if the law stands in our way."

Knowing that he had already gained a cold reputation, Arnand saw no further reason to attempt withhold his slightly antisocial personality, obtained through several months of lonely research.

As the two mages voiced their opinions Elissandre shook her head, slightly disgusted "It's fine and dandy to think about methods, but you'd rather think in terms of objectives. I don't know much about fixing empires, but if I am to give a try, I'd go as I would with a badly sick and injured patient. Treat one problem at a time, fixing injuries, removing toxins... and generally helping the body to heal itself.

For an Empire that would be start somewhere ? pick a city and cleanse it : remove the worst problems ? either directly or using what's still healthy. Help the decent guys to rise in he rotten one's place. That sort of things."

She looked at Amand "And you'd better keep your taste for undeads under a tight leash. There's a summon any two-bits necromancer can manage that you'd better not drop on our heads. An angry, torch-and-pitchforks wielding mob."

"I'm more worried about the Mages Guild than a mob of commoners. The guild has been coming down pretty hard on necromancers ever since that incident with Mannimarco and his followers," Tucharon stated.

"I suppose as rusted and broken the Empire is, rebuilding it would take immense resources and time, certainly more than would be required for simply repairing what we already have." He was not sure at this point to be skeptical or not; as large as the Khajiit's plans were, he had to be impressed by how finely engineered the tests had been. In the very least this vampire had significant resources, as was seen in the treasure room.

"Even if the mages guild did come down on us it wouldn't be the end of the world" said Luna "even if our job would be easier if we can get all the guilds to cooperate with us. It would be ideal if we could get an infuencial sympathiser in each guild, that way we could get assistance when required". She looked Tucharon straight in the eye before continuing "and to be honest I'm more concerned about the dark brotherhood. It's obvious that once we start certain people will want us dead regardless of whether we're necromancers or not and that they will likely turn to assassins to do the job."
