Char build

Post » Wed Jun 16, 2010 3:12 am

Hi, new to the game and want to try a small gun, energy gun, lockpick, maybe some sneak using much vats.

Are these start stats ok?

Str 4
Per 4-5
End 5
Char 5
Int 8
Agi 8
Luck 5

Any suggestions for perks?

Thanks.

For most of my chars i never have more then 1 in charisma and have at least 6 in everything but int which i often put at 9 since i go get the int bobblehead pretty much right after getting outta the vault, then get educated at level 4 to up the number of skill points per level to 23 but that might just be because i like to get as strong as possible as quickly as possible.

For perks you could get fortune finder to find more caps and scrounger to find more ammo, gunslinger to up hit chance of single handed guns in vats and commando which does the same for two handed guns, probaly get action boy/girl to get an extra 20-25 action points, silent runner will make you quiet even when running in sneak mode although im not sure if armor weight still plays a role in the chance of getting detected and it'll add 10 to your sneak but you need 50 or 60 sneak to get it first, cyborg will up your damage protection by 10% and add 10 to your energy weapons skill but it needs i think 60 in sceince and medicine it'll also add to poison and rad defense as well i think.

Honestly, this game is so big and your choices are so numerous it's better to just jump in and play around yourself. Unless you have a specific play style in mind that you'd like help with, just play around a bit . Taking advice from other people is good and all, but it may put you down a path you're not happy with. So just jump in, and try your best to stay afloat. You'll get the hang of it, the first time I played I quit the game for a few months because I didn't like as as I didn't know what the hell I was doing. Initially it's a lot to take in, but if we can do it so can you!

I couldn't agree more. When i started playing i made a character that just didnt work cause I didn't really know what i was doing, but you can pick it up pretty easily. Only advise i can give is to collect the 7 "special" bobbleheads after you get Almost Perfect assuming you don't take Nuclear Anomaly instead or something else for that matter.

Ok cool, thanks for the info, I will play around and see how it goes :) I read that there is no really bad builds either but that melee is not as good as weapons.

My current build for a small guns / sneaky character:

S 2
P 7
E 2
C 7
I 6
A 8
L 8

So far I think I've taken (2) intense trainings to boost END and STR by 1 point each. The focus uses speech and VATS a lot (so Child at Heart, Black Widow). With only 15-20 DR in the mid-game levels, I have to play smart to survive.

Any SPECIAL is viable as long as you stay between 3 and 8 points for each attribute. Stay below 8 so that you have room to raise it with gear or perks or bobbleheads. Stay above 3 so that you're not completely underwater.

Melee is fun as a secondary weapons skill. It doesn't use any ammo and is great with some of the less powerful enemies. The Shishkebob, which is a weapon you build with schematics, is fantastically fun, as it sets your target on fire, and you don't need to use VATS. Unarmed is very fun as well, and has better perks than Melee.

If you decide to play Melee or Unarmed though, I would recommend a higher EN as you do tend to take more damage; maybe a 7.
