Character Advice

Post » Wed Mar 24, 2010 6:31 pm

Hi guys.

I've recently been struggling with sticking to characters, but last night I thought up a character I'd like to pursue. However, I ran into a couple of issues I figured you could help me with.

Basically she's a female Breton with the Apprentice Birthsign. She's a pacifist who refuses to kill (unless absolutely forced, but would rather have a summoned creature do it). Would rather go round the enemy than engage in a fight. However, she is also afraid of the dark, so needs to carry a torch.

What would you suggest? She'll need to fight at times. Especially as it'll be impossible for her to sneak anywhere dark.
And the tutorial dungeon, she pretty much HAS to kill things in there, which goes against all her character.

Invest in Illusion.... invisibility, chameleon, paralyze. All of these can help you avoid fights as much as possible. Also, has light spell, or even better that night vision spell (forgot the name).

Illusion is what I'd build up. This gives you light spells early on, assuming you choose Illusion as a Minor. If you choose it as a Major, you'll be able to use Invisibility as soon as you can afford it and figure out whom to buy it from. Invisibility can be the ultimate of pacifist spells.

It is actually possible to complete the MQ with 0 kills on your stat page. Somebody did it one time, but it takes a lot of maneuvering. You can use Command Spells on virtually every encounter if you make some good custom ones, see my sig for an example. Also, a Breton with that kind of magica can simply run, literally, while healing, thru most any gauntlet the game provides. One tactic I like to use with Command on a lone enemy is simply let them follow you til you get to an area with more, then cast command and if desired as summons, then sit back and enjoy some popcorn.....

That makes sense. I suppose she'll be able to work up the funds for invisibilty without straying too far out of cities. Would invisibility still hide us if I've got a torch equipped or a light spell active?
Unless she gets Night-Eye.

Also, Avarae, how did they get through the tutorial dungeon without killing anything? >.<

It's easy to run through the tutorial without killing anything. And if you don't object to summoned creatures doing the killing (you will be credited with any kills made by your summons) and have high Illusion skill it's pretty easy to get through dungeons.

From my own experience, anyone killed by your summon counts as being killed by you. If your summon kills a citizen, you get the visit from Lucien. So if your into stats and such, and want to try for a perfect zero, no summons.

You can lure non-swimmers to water and drown them. You can lure natural enemies together and have them fight it out. You probably need invisibility (once you get them together) except for luring things to a Legion Patrolman. Forest creatures and bandits are natural enemies. Daedra are natural enemies of any denizen of Cyrodiil.

The character you describe could be used to describe Angel. Initially, she had no choice but to defend herself. Nowadays, she rarely kills anything except undead, Daedra, Vampires, and Necromancers.

She can cloak herself with enchanted clothes to 120% chameleon. She can boost that even higher with spells and potions. These days, she's pretty much fearless and only uses her cloaking out of compassion. If she is going to fight, hiding become a last-defense: a thing she has not done for many, many levels.

Its easy to do the tutorial without killing anything (except for the trap Goblins - though you dont really kill it). Just run, don't stop to fight anything, and once you come to the push logs, push them first. The trip wire trap, just avoid the swinging spike logs. Most times I create a new character now, I just grab what I need and start running, get Baurus to kill the emporers assasin that attacks you, and saty out of the way.

Thanks for all the help guys :)

Lirielle Tailas is alive and well in the Merchants Inn at the moment.
Whenever she was spotted in the tutorial dungeon she ran away. All in all she's coming on nicely and I feel we will travel far together.

She's already shown me some things about her personality that I wasn't expecting, and we had our first argument (she won >.<).

Ps, I apologise for any typo's as I'm on my phone :)

Illusion is your best friend as is conjuration. You could also use poisoned appels but you can't get into the DB without killing at least one most likely two people. You only have to get in for access to poisoned aples.

Using poisoned apples is a pain. Some characters also carry their own food and won't touch them. For stats purposes, I believe that death from poisons may not count as direct kills. So if you cut someone with a poisoned blade, and they die from the poison, not the cut, then you didn't kill them. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Poison says that killing an NPC with poison never counts as murder. If a summoned creature kills, it's your kill, but a Commanded enemy doesn't count(?)

Ya. I'm just saying its an option for someone who doesn't want to directly be responsible for someones death.

It's clear you have a wild ride ahead of you. Be sure to tell us what she's doing from time to time.
