You don't, by chance, need any more names for custom classes, do you?

i think faction reputation should be effected a bit, but probably no more than 10 points total. the end result is that some factions marginally like you and others marginally dislike you. not so much your reputation is preceeding you, but more like it's how you appear to them right off the bat. so someone that had a thieving past, would just look suspicious to guards even if they weren't doing anything.

Really looking forward to trying this one. Very good concept. :foodndrink:

Thanks for the kind words, I hope that the mod will live up to expectations.

Certainly. If you check out the link in the OP that goes to the detailed background information I have a few slots open for another version I will make for this that will include some more classes. Further, any classes I do not decide upon will hopefully still work with this mod as I intend to include a default set of questions to be used on any classes I don't account for in the mod.

Well, those suggestions go much higher than the numbers I am currently using for Faction adjustments. I would be curious to any particular changes you would consider making to the question/answer/results (as well as anyone else for that matter - thus why the WIP thread is here at the moment, idea gathering).

Mainly a small bump to keep the idea mill churning on this one. Making a small update to the OP after this to reflect quorn's suggestions for the jail question as well.

This is a superb idea! It looks like you've done an excellent job so far with the questions and rewards/disadvantages. I am eagerly looking forward to this!

My only thought... the Morag Tong is very heavily based on honor, and very heavily against the sort of mercenary murder of the Dark Brotherhood. I'm not sure you having simply murdered someone would be a reason for a reputation bump for them. Perhaps there's a way to differentiate between "honorable" or justified murder (which would net a +rep) and flat out nasty murder (which would lower it)?

"What were you in prison for?"
1) "Murder; I killed the man who killed my sister.
2) "Murder; I couldn't take that guard screaming "HALT!" at me one moment more."

Something like that. Just a thought, though, what you have so far is excellent as is. :D

Red Eye,

Here's some of the notes from what I worked on, maybe these can help you formulate your questions. As stated, they're purposefully vague so the player could interpret the answers to their liking. The second questions are linked to the first answer, to better expound on the nature of the crime that landed the player in prision:

1 ) Why were you in prison?
A ) thievery (sneak, security, acrobatics)
B ) smuggling & embezzlement (mercantile, speechcraft, enchant)
C ) reckless magic (destruction, alteration, unarmored)
D ) witchcraft (alchemy, restoration, conjuring)
E ) assault & propery destruction (blunt weapon, block, axe)
F ) murder (short blade, illusion, marksman)
G ) heresy (mysticism, athletics, hand to hand)
H ) vagrancy (opts out of positive/negative modifiers)

2A ) What was the circumstances of thievery?
A ) riches (security, intelligence, +jewels)
B ) amusemant (acrobatics, luck, +basic thief set)
C ) charity (sneak, personality, reputation)

2B ) What was the circumstances of smuggling?
A ) riches (mercantile, personality, +gold)
B ) power (speechcraft, strength, reputation)
C ) knowledge (enchant, intelligence, +weak magic item)

2C ) What was the circumstances of reckless magic?
A ) amusemant (alteration, willpower, +alteration spellx2)
B ) power (destruction, strength, +destruction spellx2)
C ) defense (unarmed, endurance, +alteration spell&+destruction spell)

2D ) What was the circumstances of witchcraft
A ) power (conjuration, willpower, +conjuration spellx2)
B ) knowledge (alchemy, intelligence, +basic alchemy set)
C ) charity (restoration, personality, +restoration spellx2)

2E ) What was the circumstances of assault & destruction?
A ) amusemant (blunt weapon, speed, +blunt weapon)
B ) power (axe, strength, +axe)
C ) defense (block, agility, +shield)

2F ) What was the circumstances of murder?
A ) riches (marksman, agility, +gold)
B ) amusemant (illusion, speed, +illusion spellx2)
C ) defense (short blade, strength, +short blade)

2G ) What was the circumstances of heresy?
A ) knowledge (mysticism, intelligence, +mysticism spellx2)
B ) power (hand to hand, strength, +weak magic item)
C ) charity (athleticism, endurance, reputation)

*motive explanation:
riches - breaking the law for personal wealth
amusemant - breaking the law for the sake of fun
knowledge - breaking the law to further one's studies
power - breaking the law to exert force over others
defense - breaking the law in defense of self and others
charity - breaking the law to help others

---

Those are the questions that are relevant to this thread. Never did get around to adding negative results to each question, which would've made it more interesting. Hope it helps. ^_^

...snip...

Hmm, that is a very good point in regard to the DB and MT regarding their methods and practices. I am still a little shaky on how many slots I want to provide reputation adjustments, is the prison question definitely one that people think should net such an occurrence?

...snip...

Huh, I hadn't really thought to do a followup to the prison question, but that really isn't a bad idea as it would give the player at least a mild degree of control behind the circumstances than simply just using their imagination. In fact, I really like that idea - to be perfectly honest - I will toss that into my notes :)

Great idea, the character backgrounds in Daggerfall were awesome.
There are a lot of positive bonuses for these questions though, is it going to be balanced?

I'm looking forward to this!

Yea, I think backgrounds were strangely missing from Daggerfall to Morrowind - an aspect I would have loved to see stick around to give those extra little finishing touches to the character and make it more personal to the player.

Indeed it will. There is a link in the OP that will take you to a small page showing what classes will be asked what questions. There are around 34 questions in all, and each class will only be asked 12 or so - this being broken up to things relating to the class in both positive and negative lights. All in all, each character should come out with some bonuses, equipment, and negatives.

Any individual suggestions are HIGHLY welcome at this phase of the game, since it is still in the idea development phase until I finish some other projects (such as Burial Rites).

I also want this to work with as many mods as possible, to the point where I will probably be making some patches to go along with it (such as for Char Gen Revamped that Pwin is working on at the moment).

that's a good idea, thievery and smuggling should lower rep with imperial legion, witchcraft lowers it with tribunal and imperial cult, heresy lowers it with tribunal and redoran. i would say assault should increase it with camonna tong which would be pretty funny.

Agree, this is a great idea for a mod by the way, been reading the tread on the fly... I think you might want to look about the gold rewards present in many answers couse it seemed prety posible to me that anyone could walk off the census and exice with half a K gold in it?s pokets (with doesn?t fit with being a releaced prisoner IMO, besides is unbalancing)... also plain murder would put you in good terms with Dark brod. and Camona members... not with Morag tong since they are all about honor.
Anyway looks like a great idea that I?ld be following... Perjaps you could add some NPC class based consecuenses..., example you were imprisoned for being a thief, then Arrile would say "Hi there PC%race you may see my wares but show the gold before you touch anything" (since he is a merchant) Althoug I think that may require extensive scripting...

Both of your WIP{s at the moments are on my "treads to follow" list!!

True, a person can get out of the Offices with a bunch of stolen goods and pawn them for money, but that is a player choice. The way I see it, everytime you are arrested in the game you get your non-stolen possessions back, so the same should apply here upon your release. Perhaps a player starting with a little loot in their pockets will be less inclined to pillage the offices of their goods as a result (and if not, that is their own choice to make). Granted, I could certainly lower the amounts some, but all in all most shouldn't come out with too much money.

I am still a little iffy on having too many faction reputation adjustments in the mod, unless that is something people seem to be generally in favor of.

And thanks much for the kind words, and hopefully they both make light of day :P

Indeed, but my modding is on a pause right now to finish off some things with my website, work on a website I was hired to build, and replace my now dead DVD drive. I plan to actually tackle this mod again first out of my projects, though, as there is less environment building in this which has consumed a lot of time on Burial Rites. But fear not, this is by no means dead in the water.

Amazing idea. I've never actually played Daggerfell BUT this would be an awesome edition to Morrowind for sure, great for RPing.

Kind of the way I was looking at it - I will probably be looking into patching it into a couple of different Chat Gen mods as well

My first task (which I can probably start fairly soon) is to go back through all the questions and classes and make any revisions that I think need to be made - and then I can start cracking away at the CS. Granted, I will probably toss my revisions up here as well for people to look over them and provide any criticism or insight that they might have for the mod.

sounds good. one thing i'd like to see expanded upon is character flaws. though, there's not really much to attribute, without doing some novel.

One of the major things I wanted to do with this is to go through and devise some semblance of a formula to setup what classes get asked what questions. Essentially I want to make it so that overall the character still comes out the same (I.E. after doing backgrounds all characters will have an advantage, disadvantage, +X to Skills, +X Equipment, etc). This way, each character will remain diverse and at the same time be just as well off as any other starting character in terms to points and equipment acquired by the end (though the exact details themselves may differ quite a bit).

Well, a friend of mine had a spare DVD drive that they decided to give me, so I am going to be looking into installing that on my PC soon. Once that is out of the way, I will probably be resuming my work on this project first and foremost, and then finishing off my Burial Rites project after that. I may also end up cutting back the scope of Burial Rites, for the time being, to ensure a slightly more prompt release with the project. After that I probably won't be modding for a little while as I need to get my personal play build back up to speed with some of the new improvements that have been made (which I am sure will require some personal patching), and probably doing some more work on my TES: RPG project (linked in my sig). Mayhaps at some point I will also finish off the other parts of Burial Rites sometime thereafter :)

As long as there is any interest whatsoever in the mod, it will stay on my list of projects until I get it done, I'm just one of those kind of people (if someone can enjoy my work, I need to do my work). Gonna fiddle with the drive this weekend, and then hopefully have some revised information to post in regards to this project sometime over the coming week here.

Thanks very much, that's why I started working on it (until my PC completely died on me, but it is up and working again, and upgraded a bit to boot, so once I get MW installed here again, I'll be back to work on both of my projects).

In answer to your question, since I use it, no it will not conflict - I am going to be focusing pretty heavily on compatibility for this mod, I expect it to work fine with any other mod out currently - and if needed, I will make some patches for any stubborn mods that just don't want to play nice.
