[SPOILERS] Character Builds

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 4:10 pm

Now that the full perk chart (including the rank 1 effects for almost all perks) has been released, we can start actually planning our character builds out. This thread is for discussing character builds using that leaked information; no story spoilers should appear in this thread, only gameplay 'spoilers'.

---

Here's the build I'm planning:

S - 3
P - 4
E - 1
C - 7
I - 9
A - 3
L - 1
There's probably some way to increase your SPECIALs by 1 without using a perk point in-game; I'd like to use that to advance Charisma to 8 at least. If I can't, then one of my perks will have to go into that.
The perks I'm planning on getting (in order of SPECIAL and SPECIAL rank required; the number at the end is the number of ranks available for that perk, not necessarily the number of ranks I'm going to take):

S3 - Armorer: 4
P3 - Awareness: 1
P2 - Rifleman: 5
P4 - Locksmith: 4
C4 - Attack Dog: 3
C6 - Local Leader: 2
C8 - Inspirational: 3
I2 - Medic: 4
I3 - Gun Nut: 4
I4 - Hacker: 4
I5 - Scrapper: 2
I6 - Science: 4
I8 - Robotics Expert: 3
I9 - Nuclear Physicist: 3
A3 - Sneak: 5
I see this character as being a power armor technician when he was in the military, and he is going to do a lot of work on building up settlements and doing lots of item customization. With stratospheric Charisma and Intelligence he should be good-to-go in regards to talking to people in dialogue, and being a sneaky bastard has always been one of the more fun ways to go through Bethesda games. With this build, I can get all of the ranks of all of these perks by level 52 or 53 (depending on if I need to waste a perk point on increasing Charisma).
There are a few other perks I'd like to grab, but can't afford:

S7 - Steady Aim: 2 (+4)
S8 - Basher: 4 (+5)
P5 - Demolition Expert: 4 (+1)
P8 - Sniper: 3 (+4)
P9 - Penetrator: 2 (+5)
E1 - Toughness: 5 (+0)
E3 - Life Giver: 3 (+2)
A2 - Commando: 5 (+0)
A4 - Mister Sandman: 3 (+1)
A7 - Ninja: 3 (+4)
A8 - Quick Hands: 2 (+5)
The '+#' there is the number of ranks in the SPECIAL stat that I'd need to grab in order to be able to take that perk. Even if we get one free increase to each SPECIAL somewhere in the game, I'd need to be level 110 to get all of the ranks of all of these perks, so that's probably not happening.

I don't enjoy VATS, so I'm not going to be investing in Luck at all - its perks seem to almost entirely benefit VATS rather than normal gameplay, so I'm skipping them.

Hopefully a 1 END won't be too much of a crippler, but we'll see.

So, what kind of character build are you going after?

My build (after Bobblehead in parentheses):

S: 2 (3)

P : 4 (5)

E: 4 (5)

C: 2 (3) + 1

I: 5 (6)

A: 9 (10)

L: 2 (3)

The way my stats are set up, I have access to plenty of perks that I want, and when I get a Bobblehead, it'll give me access to another new perk I want (Armorer, Demolitions Expert, Aquaboy, Attack Dog, Science!, Gun Fu, and Bloody Mess). The only thing I'll need to invest a point into is Charisma, and that shouldn't be too big a deal. Beyond that, I'll only ever raise my SPECIAL stats if I have spare points I don't want to spend elsewhere.

My stealth/sniper build:
S-3
P-6
E-1
C-1
I-6
A-6
L-5

By level 10 it should be:
S-3
P-9
E-1
C-1
I-6
A-9
L-9

I figure I can go perkless the first ten levels and still be effective in combat, and by level 10 after collecting all the bobbleheads I'll have all the stats I want maxed out which correlate to the perks I want.

My charisma/melee/shotgun build:
S-9
P-1
E-5
C-6
I-3
A-3
L-1

At level 7:
S-9
P-1
E-9
C-9
I-3
A-3
L-1

After seeing the full chart, my SPECIAL won't change too much

S: 4

P: 4

E: 1

C: 6

I: 6

A: 3

L: 4

Endurance looked kinda pointless because usually i plan on carrying around a ton of medication and also i can worry about it in late game. Intelligence and Charisma looked stunning, so i want those. i just wasn't sure about A, L with putting 3 and 4 on which one. I chose to put 4 on L and 3 on A because i want the mysterious stranger perk for luck. I love a lot of the perks. This game is going to make me use charisma, intelligence and more melee weapons than before. By the way, anyone know how many perks we choose at the very beginning, before leveling up?

I'm pretty certain we don't choose any perks prior to leveling up.

I actually decided to change my build after seeing what the perks do. I really wish Beth would've just released it. Going for a sneak with pistols. Anyways, S 1 P 4 E 1 C 1 I 9 A 6 L 6. Then continue to upgrade perception and agility, maybe luck. Im really hoping the further ranks of four leaf clover does something cooler, because all of the high lucks seem very boring.
