Character Creation Screen

Post » Wed Sep 28, 2011 9:18 am

If you haven't seen the video of the character creation screen, watch it before you reply to this thread.

Is anyone else worried that it might make it a bit difficult to perfect your character with him/her in that awkward handcuffed position? It's not the biggest problem ever at all, but still. I think it may make using the weight slider slightly difficult, but I guess it wouldn't affect anything facial at all. Just, when he uses the weight slider in the video, it seems so strange because the bulk that is being added has to be constrained by the arms...

Again, not the biggest deal in the world, just something

(Also, doesn't seem to be great lighting, but that is very possibly just the video quality.)

I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about the facial structure presets. We don't get direct control over the shape. There's preset shapes, and then you just slide where they are on the face. At least, from what I could tell watching it.

It's silly that the video is banned, but, for whatever reason, it is (even though it was released through one of the biggest gaming websites).

I suppose that you'll have the chance to change your character before setting off into the world just like in Blivvy.

I know, but that's quite obviously the real Skyrim character creation screen. No one would be stupid enough to believe that was an official video. And sorry, it's down.

It'l be fine. From what it looks like it doesn't cover anything, as the hands seem to be inverted, not covering the waist.

Wow who cares if it's cam footage? It's bad quality anyways.

Regarding the character body sliders, I wouldn't worry too much. It is a bit difficult to see the size of their chests with the character posing with his hands chained in front, but you can see the arms clearly enough, and the body is in a nice proportion to the arms.

Can I zoom in on the face?

Not that I could see, but if you're on a half-decent size TV it's nice and big. Very easy to see what you're doing.

They did the presets because in Oblivion you would end up with completely unrealistic and hideous faces because it allowed so much freedom. The presets look great and give plenty of variety, it seems. I don't think they'll ever be an issue.

I'm not surprised, but am disappointed by this. Character creation in OB was a pain in the ass, but it was still the greatest system I've ever seen. I'll miss the freedom.

If you have the modding tools you'll still have that freedom, methinks.

If I'm able to I'm going to try to make tons of presets for people to further customize their characters.

Watch Eve character creation. It knows Oblivion and no doubt Skyrim out of the water.

However I agree that Oblivion was great especially for its time, a shame that people were generally quite ugly, but lots of freedom.

I'll always miss the 'ugly' button. ;)

It's a shame Eve is a space combat simulator, making the realistic customization pointless.

APB is also up there in character creation, too.

I do think there is such a thing as having too much freedom, a lot of the options in Oblivion turned my characters into ugly freaks and the terrible lighting in the start dungeon didn't help either. It was difficult to create a decent looking character and nigh impossible to make an awesome looking one.

In the end, the customization in Elder Scrolls VI will blow both of those games out of the water.

It takes so long, which is why I think the presets are a better idea if we were also able to edit the presets more. But, if you get it for the computer, us modders can hook you up with some creative and even more mundane presets.

That's true for normal people. For me, I want to spend hours struggling to create my perfect character. I find the huge possibility for ugliness to be an exciting challenge. The most thrilling enemy I ever encountered in vanilla OB was the inter-relationship between sliders (WHY DID ADJUSTING THE FOREHEAD RUIN MY LIPS?)

But, if you get it for the computer, us modders can hook you up with some creative and even more mundane presets.

Will that really be possible? I'd figure modders (bless your hearts) would be just as limited by the facegen system.
