Character - "Crusader". Dunmer or Breton?

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 3:55 pm

I'm fiddling around with a new character, and I could really use some input. I've made two similar classes; one for a Dunmer, one for a Breton. They're supposed to resemble the custom Crusader class. That is, a warrior relying heavily on Restoration. Basically, a support mage. I won't be using Destruction - only non-offensive magic - which made me turn to the Breton race; however, with the Dunmer's versatile skill, attributes, and general setup, it could go either way. Now, I'll probably make a decision on my own, but I'd like to hear your opinions on which one, as well as two other things: I listed Heavy Armor as a major on both classes, but would Light Armor be alright to pick as well? And how about the specialization - magic or combat?

Here are the two classes. Dunmer:

STRENGTH-45: Blunt-10, Blade-35, Hand to Hand-5

Breton:

A thanks to anyone willing to share their two cents.

In my opinion the breton is slightly better. Mainly because I like the bonuses he gets in Magic.

i would recommend the breton, 50% magicka resist is amazing and the starting boost in restoration is helpful. Although really i would go with whatever race you think looks better.

And heavy armor is way better because it will way and protect teh same at level 100 as light, but it will have much more health

Thanks. I think I'll go with the Breton, then.

Well, if that's the only reason, then I'll go for Light. It doesn't protect as well, but it weighs a lot less, which makes dropping items and Feather-spells less compulsory. I hate having to drop some awesome loot because it weighs five pounds too much...

Heavy Armor also has the advantage of training your Endurance.

If you want the best stats Breton are probably the best race for practically any character. 50% Resist Magic is by far the most powerful of all racial abilities.

You're right about the Endurance. But I don't care about attributes or skills at all. If the game gets too hard, I'll just lower the difficulty a bit. No problem there. :)

Can we skip the favorite race flaming on this thread? He wanted to either make a Breton or Dunmer, not an Altmer. If you are going to suggest another race, then suggest it: not just say it is better. Thank you.
Personally I think the classes seem quite good. A good build Battlemage, but on the Dunmer I would swap one of the attributes with Willpower since it has a -10 to it. The race is more tricky. The Breton is the one with the best overall abilities, but can break the game by making you extremely powerful inn the end. I would personally go with the Dunmer since it require more work to reach that power. If you want to be as powerful as possible I'll say go with the Breton.

Thanks for the comment. I'll just going to flip a coin, I think. I'm between a rock and a hard place deciding, so chance will be my guide. *Flips coin* - Dunmer it is.

The Dunmer Crusader would be a good Idea if you want a strong Vampire since Dunmers are resistant to fire.

Ever think of switching out the lady in the Breton class For the Apprentice. The Extra mana helps ,plus the Bretons Magic resist nullifies The Weakness to Magic, and the extra mana can help alot for those random Alteration and Restoration Spells

The Breton Magic Reistance is 50% and does not nullify the 100% Weakness to Magic from the Apprentice birthsign. If you want more Magicka it's better to get the Mage birthsign and enchant your gear with Fortify Magicka from Sigil Stones.

Mage is a much stronger birthsign than Apprentice. Apprentice only gives 50 more Magicka but comes with a 100% Wekaness to Magicka. You can get 50 Magicka from 1 Transcendent Sigil Stone with Forify Magicka, but it takes 5 Transcendent Sigil Stones with Resist Magic to counter the weakness.

If you're going to feel smug and superior all over the forum about High Elves could you at least learn how to spell "Altmer"?

Well I say Breton, because I just see them fitting the Crusader role more than a Dunmer, but thats the beauty of TES, you can make any combo work, be it an Orc Mage, Bosmer Paladin(this is a lot of fun.) or anything that you can think of. From a Gameplay point of view, Breton's Resist sure is nice.
