Character File - Kept with Bethesda or On the Megaserver?

Post » Tue Feb 04, 2014 3:06 am

So when I played "Defiance" the frustrating thing was that they had seperate servers for Europe and America.

This meant to begin with that I couldn't play the game with any of my buddies from overseas.

However eventually, as they ironed out the creases, you were able to manually select which server you wanted to join and your character loaded there.

So for TESO you won't have to worry about being seperated from your buddies because you can manually select your server location from teh very beginning.

However... I have read that your character is RESTRICTED to the server you create them on.

i.e. You create your character on the European Server, your buddy creates his character on the American Server... you actually can't play because they are LOCKED to that server.

Is this actually the case or will it work like "Defiance" where your character's details are stored online and you can load them up on wichever server you want?

Thanks in advance.

Az

Edit - Oh dear, I'd better mention before someone seeks to correct me and point out that TESO has been developed by Zenimax Online Studios - You know what I meant when I said "Bethesda".

It wouldnt make much sense. I swear they said you can easily switch between the two, but i dont think they said if they meant creating a new character or just using a current one from the other server .. good question though. i would like to know the answer as well.

It's been confirmed that your characters are stuck on the server they are created on. At least for now (there are MMO's that offer a paid service to transfer characters between servers).

What's the point in doing that?

It's clearly a frustration for the player. Especially if you're paying a fee.

Not that, rather switching across when you feel like it.

Touchy subject for a MMO.

Anyway with the megaserver you only have to chose between NA and EU datacenter, which is much much better than having to chose one out of many servers.

So you think they should just offer free instantaneous server transfers whenever somebody feels like it? Yeaaaaah... no.

Well, your latency will be significantly higher since the server will be further away. So in a word, yes, you will have more lagg.

I'm sure there will be some, but it's hard to say whether it'll actually be noticeable until you're in the game. I recall playing D2 on Euro servers and it being just fine, but then again I wasn't PvPing either.

why not?

I have a good paying job but my hours are random, sometimes i play when most people in US are asleep, it would be amazing to switch to EU server when that happens.

Well, the megaservers ensures that you won't be playing alone, ever.

even with a megaserver think of the internal filters in the game.

Are the people who are playing in your alliance? 66% wont be

Are they roughly the same level? X% wont be

Are they interested in doing the content you want to do? X% wont be

So there could be a lot of people playing and you'll still be alone, so transfering to EU server late at night would not be unreasonable.

No switching servers once you have created the character.

so at 4AM your megaserver will have enough people to run endgame content with 16 player groups?

Also, what would be so bad in giving people the option to switch from one server to another. This annoyed me like crazy in SWTOR, they could do it real quick if you payed them but otherwise you were SOL.

Also your statement is fundamentally flawed, i dont just want people, i want people who are interested in doing what i want to do, and the chances of that increase if the server has more people does it not?

if you are worried about playing at 4am then pick the proper server? have your friend join you? unless this game has low numbers you will be able to find players to play with.
