You're joking right? 9ft tall characters? Thats insane.
I don't mind a little customization with height, but they should definitely keep it within the range for the race you're playing. Not let you become a Goliath just because you feel like it.
Well I'm not going to ask for 8.5ft, since that would seem like an invitation to round it down to 8ft.
All I'm really asking for is that if I want my character to be tall as in
tall tall, then I can do that, but not to an extreme. 8ft might be enough to allow for a bit of give or take. I said 9ft more to give the extra decimals for if you think your character needs to be just that tiny bit taller. Don't mistake a requested maximum for what I personally would choose, I picked 9ft because I'd kick myself if I found that I wanted my character to be 8.1ft but the maximum wouldn't let me have that extra 1 inch of height.
Also, personally, I think there should be a blanket maximum of 8ft or 9ft, as in, if your character's race is already about 7.8ft on average, that should not entitle you to make a hill giant. Each race should then have their own maximums. My recommendations:
Bosmer: 5.5 Seeing as that would already leave them nearly the same height as some Imperials.
Argonians/Khajiit, Imperials, Bretons, Redguards and Dunmer: 7ft
Orcs and Nords and Altmer: Somewhere between or including 7ft and 8ft
Supposed new race: Whatever the heck most appeals to you, Bethesda.
You could also argue that everyone but Bosmer should have a common maximum, but I somehow doubt that decision would be well-received.
I think a common
minimum of 4ft would be acceptable, unless we want Bosmer to be able to go as short as 2ft (about the same distance as the longest side of a rectangular pillow).
The reasons that I'm grouping most races together are:
1. They were roughly the same height as each other in Oblivion, and so it would make sense for them to be able to share a maximum height.
2. It would be unfair to tell players that they get an extra 0.1 between certain races.
