Character Mouth Animation Bug (v1.3)

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 7:45 pm

The player character's mouth doesn't open when grunting after being hit, which looks highly unnatural.

The character's mouth does in fact open at other times, such as when panting (after stamina reaches 0) or when taking a breath with eagle eye.

Occasionally the mouth doesn't open at all for these instances.

I also noticed that the mouth doesn't open from weapon swings (which are accompanied by a loud yell). This is most noticeable during a sneak attack.

I propose the mouths be animated for all of these cases, so the player looks more natural in combat.

If you want to reproduce this bug/issue, find a mudcrab and let it attack you. Lower your weapons and rotate the camera to look at your face.

(Note: This was reproduced with an entirely new character/save file).

Do I detect a little tongue in cheek post here?

I really hope so.

No.

I was grinding my light armour and wanted to see if my character's mouth could open when it should.

Ultimately when I become a vampire, I'll want to see if I actually have fangs. And that means seeing the mouth open.

This IS a valid issue.

It may not be game-breaking, but it's still an issue. Just as much of an issue as the fact your face disappears when you wear certain combinations of armours... or your legs vanish. Plus some other issues with armour clipping awkwardly.

A friend confirmed it for PC also.

A code fix for something like this should be very small, given that it is probably an oversight.

Facial animations occur when you are in combat (your character starts frowning). When breaths are taken, a facial animation is played to reflect it. It is only natural for the observant player to expect the same animations to play when your character grunts/screams.

All that needs to be done is link the same facial animations to trigger with the grunt audio, as occurs with NPCs. A simple fix.

No I do not need a poll. There is something called equality.

Every issue should be documented for future fixing, however small.

Well I think its a bug in the facial animations. I was just traveling along the road and for some reason my character was baring his teeth as if he was in battle but he wasn't and there were not any enemies around but his face went back to normal after a while.

Who looks at their face while doing these things anyway?

Is an issue like this even worth mentioning considering the current condition of this game?

You must be playing a different Skyrim than I am.

Ok I'll be constructive and realistic, here is the bugfix timeline:-

Framerate and freezing....Questline correction (Major)......Questline correction (Minor)......Graphical zoning and loading optimisation......Remaining issues FFA (Final Fix Attempt)......Fix Mouth.

Not allowing for work and bugfix on each DLC that will insert between estimated bugfix rotation I estimate your issue getting looked at sometime around Summer 2013.

All issues are worth mentioning.

Do you think they have every member on the team trying to edit the exact same piece of code all at the same time? All of them huddling over one monitor.

No.

There will likely be some devoted to fixing other issues; attempting to optimize or correct several independent sections of code. At least that's how I'd run things. The team can't let the list of bugs keep growing and growing just because the majority of the forum-people are complaining about lag. The sooner they tackle everything, the better.

And going by the latest patches they are clearly working on fixing many issues at once.

Educate yourself on the software development process if you want to know more.

As for 'framerate and freezing', I have suffered both but not nearly as intensely as others complain. I want these bugs and all major bugs to be fixed, but I also want every other bug in the game fixed too, including this one.

A report is a report, now leave it alone if you have nothing new to present on this issue.

Heh, I have a hunch they're not working on anything at all, not until next year.

I'd be inclined to agree.

And as far as correcting whether a character opens his mouth or blinks at precisely the right moment is an absolutely minor issue. Seeing as how Beth/Zenimax were so concerned about making as much money as possible that they released a broken, unplayable game to avoid losing sales, I don't see that they'd be prepared to pay programmers for the time taken to include a slight grunt to coincide with your character's every fart.

I literally don't believe what I'm reading.

These posters don't want bugs to be fixed.

You can go to Sovngarde for all I care.

Any bug fixed is welcome.
