Character Name Changes?

Post » Fri Jun 07, 2013 3:27 pm

Does anybody think that Bethesda would ever add name changes to the game? I know many people who've been playing the game with their names as "Prisoner", and many others like myself who just want a name change in general. I bought Severin Manor in Solstheim, and I want to change my name to Severin to make it sound official.

First, welcome to the forums.

When you create your character, you may change "Prisoner" to a name of your choice.

Nah, the point of an RPG is to "be" your character as it were. Of course, some people just don't want to put a name in and that's fine too.

That's not my point, but thank you anyway.

I disagree. And RPG is supposed to make you feel like you are in the world you are playing as the character you created, and just like reality, people should be able to change their names. Why should we be stuck with the names we chose? It makes no sense not to have this option in game somewhere, and I'm sure they'll add it in the future.

If you're on PC, showracemenu will let you change your name. On xbox, not sure if it's possible.

I both agree and disagree as I RP my characters but sometimes they undergo changes to their character and need a new name to go with the change. For example, if a character gets turned over to the darkside and essentially dies then is reborn a vamp, shouldn't their old name die with them?

No, it is not possible on xbox unless you transfer the save onto PC and edit it there, then transfer it back to xbox. I do not own Skyrim on the PC, and I don't have the correct equipment to transfer my saves onto my PC in the first place. I believe that Bethesda should add this in game. You know, maybe you could go to a Steward and they could change your name for a hefty amount of gold (I have about 300k so it doesn't affect me too much).

I expect many people will tell you no because 'choices have consequences', to which I just shake my head. What's wrong with allowing someone to change their name? It's fairly common IRL. It's extremely common, in fact - many people change their name upon marriage.

THANK YOU! That's exactly what I'm getting at. I feel like Bethesda might, because they have given us so much so far. Before Dawnguard, anybody who would have made this topic saying "Why can't we change our appearances?" would have gotten those same types of replies you're mentioning, but look at it now.. we can change our appearance. The same goes for changing perks. It would have been frowned upon I assume, but now we can do it! I'm just waiting patiently for the day I am allowed to change my character's name, and that of many other characters of mine.

I usually use the same few names for any game I play, so I dont get the urge to change my name very often. But I would support a way to do so, as I dont see the harm in it... people change their names all the time.

This is the same for me. I use Astares for nearly ALL things (Unless the name doesn't fit ((Nords, Orcs, etc)) I won't use it). However, I find that my Dark Elf needs a name of Dunmer descent. I own Severin Manor, why not use the name Severin? It's a nice name, and fits very well. The Severin family was fake anyhow, so I have no problem having no affiliation with the ones I've killed. It makes sense to allow us to have name changes, I'm just waiting on when it will happen.
