Character as Potentials

Post » Fri Oct 01, 2010 7:53 pm

If we don't choose a class, does that mean we all start the same (save any race or birthsign bonuses) ?
if so, then we don't have any starting skills?
How would this work if I wanted to be a mage? typically we would have some starter spells.
Do all skill levels start at 1 ?
I like the 'you are what you do' concept, but are we all just starting off as mere potentials?

Hmm, starter spells. I didn't think about that.

In Oblivion and Morrowind, you get a spell or two if you major in a school of magic. In Skyrim you don't major in anything. My guesses would be choosing a bonus starter perk, that gave you some spells? Or maybe we start off with a minor spell in each school?

Id rather just pick what I'm good at, at the beginning. I'm not just going to change play styles with one of my characters.

They might just give you a bunch of basic spells.

Birth signs, perks, maybe specializations? There will be ways to give yourself some early bonuses/headstarts toward the type of character you want to become. Maybe you'll be able to tag a few skills like in Falllout, or maybe you'll get a small number of skill points to distribute among your character's stats in any manner of your choosing.

Well, I hope skills overall start higher then. Because otherwise you'd be good at nothing, right? If there'd be no way of tagging skills.

How do you know we can't? It said classes were out, but there still might be a way to add a title.

here is a scary thought what is all spells where perks AHHH!!!!!!

but i digress, I think your starting perks would have alot to do with what kind of character you play. True you don't pick your classes but you may get a pack of starter spells as a perk then go from there. If that is the case then i would expect to see starting perks for other character archetypes. Say a sword flurry for more fighter types, or a sneak/lock pick buff for more stealthy types. and so on. Remember its those perks that will make each of our guy unique.

im cool with basic spells so long as they add the spell delete feature so when i create custom and more powerful spells i can delete them so they dont lag my menu screen

In Fallout, whichever skills you 'tagged' at the beginning of the game were treated no differently than any other skill, they just started higher. In a sense there was no classes, but you still chose skills that you wanted to use.

Skyrim will likely start all your skills at approximately the same level (5) and give you a pool of skill points to put into one or more skills. You drop 20 into blades and 20 into sneak and 15 into destruction then go on your way. You don't choose a class, but some skills just start higher.

i dont think so, cause on that screen it showed your name, your race, and no title. EDIT: hey guys i just had a cool thought, what if they added a recording feature like halo, where say you were about to embark on an amazing quest or fight a dragon, and you could turn on a recording feature, so you could take screen shots and angle your most epic moments?

Yes, that is exactly what I though about the birth signs! And what I suggested about the tweaking skills at start of the game.
