character speed

personally, i think that oblivion had many flaws.(although no matter what anybody says its still a great TES game.)and one of thoughs flaws was how fast you could make you character move.which in my opinion, espacially when you started to reach end game your character moved much to fast.what do you think?

In a way, if your speed and athletics were both at 100. You were pretty much Sonic.

I don't mind how fast you move at end game, I minded how NPC's moved way too fast. It was also sad to see that if you maxed speed and athletics you were faster than any horse.

Yah it was way to unrealistic.

I agree. NPCs moved way too fast compared to my 100 speed Khajitt. Also I loved the fact that he was fast as hell, as he should be. He is a cat after all.

I agree, but so was acrobatics. Should 100 acrobatics mean that your character has a forty some inch vertical, rather than an inch or two with the skill at 0? I don't think people would be satisfied with the amount of progress from one skill point to the next. It might be too minimal. I'm truly undecided. I love to see how high/far my character can leap or how speedy he is, but it does crush realism.. Perhaps, if it were toned down just a bit.

hmm this comment gave me the idea that some races should start of with better speed or better strength or other atributes depending on the race.but idk that might be a bad idea

You all talk about realism as you cast a fireball from your hand... and walking talking lizards and cats...

I reckon speed should be abolished.
Every character should run at the same realisitc speed, only limited by the graphical streaming.

Wearing heavy armor if you don't have the strength should slow you down though.

i think base speed should be the same for each race then you could improve how fast you sprint

I don't think the run speed was fast enough to keep me from not jumping everywhere.

No. I think one of Morrowind's greatest flaws was how slow you moved and I can't stand it. I'd rather be able to move relatively quickly, especially when my speed is near 100.

As long as the running animation doesn't look really bad at a fast run (meaning: longer strides instead of just faster strides) it doesn't really bother me!

running as fast as a horse was stupid looking. what bothered me more than the running speed was the ridiculous swim speed. the only race that should be able to move fairly quickly in water would be the argonians. an imperial wearing plate armor should be as slow as molasses.

That's not realistic (in TES world) you simply can't have a half cat half man running the same pace as an Imperial. I will say if they both are at level 100 then yes speed should balance out. But what is the point of choosing different races if there characteristics aren't making a difference to gameplay. I'm not saying that's what u said but I'm just furthering my point.

Agreed.

Seriously, it's a fantasy RPG. Who cares if it breaks realism a little? It already is.

Besides, what's realistic on Earth isn't necessarily the same as what is realistic on Nirn.

Disagree. Being able to develop your character's speed was fairly important for a number of builds, and added an interesting dynamic to combat in Oblivion. The ability to out-manoeuvre and outpace an opponent is what made archers and other lightly armoured fighters viable. With the changes to marksmanship, I think this is going to become even more crucial for these kinds of characters in Skyrim.

We will have more racial distinction.

Why should a half man/ half cat only have a head start on speed? No other race should be able to catch up. In other words a kajit with 100 speed should be faster than an imperial with 100 speed other wise the races are just cosmetic and that's bunk. Watch, it's not going to be like that any more. The different races are going to feel different.

I thought Oblivion was fine with the way it did speed. My thief was very high level, maxed out in every stat and skill that mattered to a thief, and I loved it. Was it unrealistic? Yeah. But it was a blast. Once I get a character to an obscene level, there should be a reward.

Slower character speed would help the world feeling larger, especially if it is the same size as Oblivion's. I can bet it has been changed, given the new "sprint" ability that will make things more "realistic" tactic wise. Horses should be way faster than a 100 speed character to be useful. +100% faster.

Slower character speed would be annoying as all hell. I was thrilled it'd been increased in Oblivion, because walking in Morrowind was infuriating. I'd rather enjoy a smaller-feeling world than be aggravated by a larger one.

I agree the speed was at some point supersonic in Oblivion. I think the speed in Morrowind was better from a speed versus distances point of view, gave me a better impression of "travelling" than Oblivion.
