Character Stories #8

Taking a break from Benzava's story for a bit. :( Just in case we do the Dawnguard in our next DiD comp.

I'd rather not do it once and then immediately again, lol.

Veri's Tale:

The Jarl, Laila Lawgiver, nodded her head, so I took that as an invitation to speak. "I bring greetings to Riften's Jarl from Morthal's Jarl Idgrod Ravencrone, my aunt." I was rather taking her name in vain, but I thought she'd understand. "I am interested in property outside my home hold - a getaway you might say. If there would be a property for sale here in Riften...?"

Her brows knit as she looked me over. After a few moments, she replied "Well, yes, we do have a house available." I was pretty sure that was the royal "we".... "But you would need to help the citizens of my hold before you would be considered for buying it. And we do have an issue which needs some serious handling."

"I should be delighted to assist you, my Jarl. And what would the serious issue be then?"

"We have.... a drug problem. We know who and where as far as the seller. But we've been unable to infiltrate to find his supplier. Whenever the guard attempts, he is warned...." I noticed one of the men who'd been arguing over the Empire studiously ignoring what was said. Hmmm.

"I would be happy to look into this for you. Now.... as this person is a drug seller, if things get 'unfriendly'...?"

"Oh, you have leave to handle things as needed. Here - this is the key to the warehouse near the fishery; you should find this Orc there." She dropped her voice. "I suggest - now would be a good time...." She turned from me and said sharply, "Harrald! I have things I need handled. Leave Saerlund be for now, come here."

Well, that was a facer. That had been a mother's sharp tongue there.... Again, hmmm. So I bowed my way out, and headed out to the lake area, where I assumed there would be a fishery. I was right. And just as I thought I might have found the warehouse, an Argonian - one I hadn't met previously - bumped into me, and then said "Oh please - I'm going to lose my job at the fishery unless you can help me!"

So, this was one of the addicts to whom the Orc sold skooma.... I gave her a healing potion (surprise! I actually had one on me....) and told her I would be trying to take care of the seller, so she shouldn't assume he'd be there any longer. At that she gave me a sharp-enough glance and whispered "He has a guard with him. And the Jarl's son gets a cut." Then she scurried away as if the hounds of the Hells were after her.

*sigh* Nothing's ever simple. Well - killing the two in the warehouse wasn't really difficult. I got a few slices and bruises, but they went down on the points and edges of my swords - I purely hate those who sell drugs.... I shuffled through the stuff in the "office" downstairs - there was a note which said there was more available now, and to pick it up at Cragslane. I went back to Laila, who of course told me to go deal with those in Cragslane. I wanted in the worst way to tell her that her son was involved - but.... well, that would be stupid, now, wouldn't it? Besides, I thought she probably already knew....

Sere....Poor Veri, providing the right cover has gotten to be downright irritating! I like Mom making the son snap to...to keep him quiet, and likely alive longer.

Eh, actually.... all of this that I'm writing from Veri's PoV right now is stuff I RP'd way back when - in my mind.... I'm just using it to forward the MQ really - and yeah, I know the MQ doesn't depend on Veri taking care of stuff in Riften (especially since she has NO plan to really buy the damn house!) - but my RP does depend on keeping life smooth and simple for the Argonians in Riften - even the skooma eater....

Serethil...nice ...no point in errr pointing out fault's that "Mom" might already know...just tick her off.. but a good way to deflect attention and also sow good graces between Holds

Yeah.... been a mom, been there done that.... No, none of that really shows up in the game, but it could have! And really, it would be a kind of cool quest mod.... but I can't do stuff like that so....

I'm not sure about the "good graces" things. Aunt may not be very happy that Veri did what she did - and Laila will probably NOT be happy when she finds out that Idgrod's whelp isn't really interested in buying, and in fact - scarpered out of the Rift as soon as humanly possible! *snerk*

Good job, Andra! That damned Orc boss has a fair little collection of the skulls of my DiD characters he's ended... I hate that guy. Makes me smile every time I hear he's been killed. :)

Serethil... For myself, I really like Honeyside for one reason. I love to get up in the morning, step out onto the patio jumping up on top of the railing, then running and leaping off into the lake far below... It takes me back to when I used to do something like that in RL at Lake Tahoe. The reality is that the water temps are probably bout the same, too. No better way on earth to wake up and shake the cobwebs out, eh? :)
