Character Stories Thread #9

This thread is for stories about your characters in Skyrim. A few screenshots are ok, but this is for us 'readers', so please tell your stories in text. The only thing I ask, is please post stories, not just a blurb about what your character happens to be doing, there are other threads for that. Thanks All, now come show us what's in your head!

(MadCat's 'comic/graphic novel' style welcomed too! ;) )

Ake...#78

I felt different somehow, lighter, as we strolled through the gates to go home. Kerik had my hand, and pulled me back when I started for our door. "You know Gerdie will wring your neck if you don't tell her. And tell her we will be going to Riften soon." He smiled, but his voice had that tone of finality that wasn't hard to recognize. I just smiled back and nodded. "Yes love, whatever you say." He snorted a laugh and rolled his eyes. We came into the market, headed for the Mare when Anoriath called out to me. As we stepped over to his stall, he spoke as he worked on some fresh meat cuts. "My brother has something to show you, some new arrows he thought you might be interested in. Stop on by whenever you like, he said he would not sell them until you saw them first." I nodded and thanked him, already wondering what they could be that Elrindir would think I'd want them.

Gerdie and Sin were at her table, so we grabbed two more chairs to sit with them. We both grinned, looked at them, then at each other and back again. I had to laugh at the puzzlement that brought to both of their faces. Gerdie frowned, "Alright, what are you two looking so strange about?" All of a sudden, I didn't know what to say, or how to say what I didn't know what... and that confused even me. Kerik was nudging me with his foot, looking at me. "Umm, well..." I was floundering, and looked desperately to Kerik. He cupped the sides of my head with both hands, briefly putting his forehead to mine. "Silly woman." He let go, but took my hand below the table. "Ake and I pledged to each other this morn, and we'll be marrying very soon."

I saw Sin crack a smile, looking at Kerik before nodding in what looked like approval, but my eyes watched Gerdie's face. I loved her like my own blood, and needed her to be happy for me. Where my fear came from, I couldn't say, it made no sense. I watched as the smile crept slowly over her face, until she beamed at me. "I'd say it's about time Sister, but you already know that. Now tell me you didn't pledge from your bed, in the heat of..." She barked out a wicked laugh as I cut off the rest, "NO, we did not!" I was careful to use the heel of my foot when I kicked her this time. She only laughed harder, not hurt at all, before getting up to pull me into a hug.

"We need to celebrate Ake..." I cut her off, I was relieved she was happy for me, though I still didn't know why I was afraid she would not be, but we didn't want celebrations yet. "We've only pledged, not married yet. When we do, then we'll celebrate." She sighed but nodded. "It feels like a marriage already though, from looking at you both. To some it is the same. Not many pledge to each other before marrying. 'Tis a very old custom, but a very serious one, Sister. It won't take long before everyone knows, and most will see it the same as me. I never thought to tell you of it." "I didn't know that, it just...well, it was just right. I can't explain it. We went to the the Shrine you and I found, north of Silent Moons." "A good and fitting place for Mara to bless your joining Ake."

Kerik and I had already decided that when we went to Riften, we'd not tell anyone that we were going in a sevenday. We wanted the peace of it that Gerdie and Sin had by going alone. After a quiet toast with our friends, we left to go home, but we'd stop at the Drunken Huntsman first. I was very curious about what he had for me.

Oh, that was so good, Andy! Poor Ake, still not certain about relationships - and how could she be after all? Yep, going off to Riften by themselves seems to be the best option.... You know, I find it very odd - always have - that the only place to be married in Skyrim is in RIFTEN of all godawful towns....

I know...Riften? Horrible place for it!

I love how Veri is handling Esbern and Delphine...in fact, from your great description, I am picturing Veri mentally covering her ears and singing la la la la la la.....shut up Delphine! Then reading her the riot act! LOL, that was too funny!

I feel really sorry for Esbern. He's old.... he's been in hiding (in RIFTEN! in the SEWERS for chrissakes!) for years (we don't know how many.... but a LOT of years....) - and damn if he doesn't remind me of my uncle.... *sigh* So I'm (as Veri) giving him a little love - since he's obviously never had any. So she's not ragging on him. But Delphine.... oh yeah. THAT woman gets whatever. And I really hate they gave her such a nice name. Delphiniums are one of my favorite flowers....

I love The violet blue Delphiniums I tried growing them in Florida... they didn't like the sand and humidity I guess.

and from the last of the previous thread, reading someone else's story that follows a quest-line doesn't bother me...even if I am on the same one, the quest-line itself is only a vehicle for the character and story. Each of us look's at the quest-lines in a different way. I look at them in a shallow fashion... I could ( and will with another character) go deeper... but it really doesn't suit the characters that I have ATM. I really love some of the perspectives that everyone has.. they are different and really make me look at the game and the different stories with new eyes.

It's like reading a good book, that does not take away from my own stories, it may give me an idea.. or inspire something completely different.

So this gets the writing caught up to the gameplay. Though that probably won't last long.

Kris

Entry 12

There is always a worry, a inherent danger in serving the will of another. Especially when you serve something that has power beyond your comprehension. At most, serving a Jarl, a King, may see you stabbed in the back, or killed in your service. But if you devote your life to the service of a Daedric Prince? Perhaps you prosper, as it seems Araena has. But is equally possible that you do not. That in whatever pursuit is put before you, you perish. Or even worse, whatever usefulness you once had, you suddenly lose. Becoming nothing more than a pawn that they are perhaps all too willing to sacrifice. I wonder if I would ever be this unlucky. I cannot say.

But I can say just that for Septimus. Even with this ravings, it could be said that he did not deserve his fate. Even so, I understand. I will not be someone who takes a narrow view, and believes that anything outside that range is too much to comprehend. Anyway, after the puzzle box was open, which did so in a way I could not possibly have expected – the rings on it's exposed face spinning until they formed a perfect circle, and then pulling back like the extension of a telescope, until finally a few feet away the remainder fell, exposing the contents of the box. Not supposedly the “Heart of a God” like Septimus thought, but a book on a pedestal.

I barely had time to stare at the book before I watched the man rise into the air, and then fall to the ground as nothing more than ashes.

The book itself was, odd. It was bound in various pieces of....leather? No the texture is different....WHAT? Oh. I see. How some would see this. Okay. Fine. The book is bound, not in leather, but in the skin of each Elven race.

When I turned to leave, I found myself staring at that creepy form of Hermaeous Mora again. I'll admit that I have a few doubts. But what I notice is this – nothing I've been tasked with, seems to be beyond my limits. Not arbitrary ones, like not wanting to work with Daedra, but rather just not wanting to, say, kill someone for no reason. Also I would guess that by this point, it is time for some kind of reward, not more to do.

“Now you have my Oghma Infinium. It contains the knowledge of the ages as revealed to Xarses, my loyal servant. For hundreds of years it's been shut away from the world. Septimus was a useful tool for unleashing it. Now it is in your hands. Let us work wonders together....

With this, the shadowy, bubbling form vanished. Leaving me holding this book. YES I KNOW HOW DANGEROUS THIS IS. But....it's a book. You...read it. Uh, feels like I am seriously going insane. Or maybe just acting like a Telvanni, at least as far as Aranea mentioned of them once. Even with the danger, the knowledge could be useful.

Oh.

Whoa. Yes it is. You know, I think I almost know how to do it. I've been trying to consider what I should do with all the Dragon bones and scales I've been collecting, and I think I know what. I just need a little more time.

I returned to the hall, and after a meal, nearly shut myself in that cellar. Over the next few hours I hammered out molten metals, forged into billets, shaping them into blades – most of these for display around the house, though they were functional. Forging various metals into jewelry, the kind that would be worn by royalty. Only towards morning, I figured it out. The exact method to create armor and weapons from Dragon Scales and Bones. Perhaps a feat that no Blacksmith in Skyrim could achieve, but I did it.

I made a fairly light set of armor for Aranea. My own was heavier, but I think I can deal with that. Also, I created a new blade, one similar in design to the one I took from Illianta's Deep, Azurabrand. Do not ask me how I made this new blade glow.

After I gave it to her, I spent the rest of the day thinking. Even with meals, it was on my mind. As it was from the moment I picked up the scroll in that tower. I barely noticed when I feel asleep, but the next morning, I made the choice. I suited myself up, asking Lydia to accompany me and Aranea, and headed out. The trip to High Hrothgar took some time, the nervousness, excitement, and apprehension building with every step. Within a few hours it could all be over, it could be a turning point, or it could simply do nothing. Even with the fear, I was not alone.

I stared at the gate leading to the path way up the rest of the mountain. This day will change things, if nothing else.

Enjoyable reading, Andra! One thing is for sure, if I were to sit at a table with Ake I'd have to wear Imperial shin guard boots... :D

Maximus, another good one! I'm also going to have to stop reading your story, for the time being very soon. As I mentioned to one of the gals, I have never finished the main quest, and so would rather not read about it, but I can see I'm going to have to go back and find your stories to catch up. :)

I'm not certain how it's going to work out with Bel. It turned out her savegames were all corrupted too, and I deleted them all when I uninstalled Skyrim. I'm thinking I may start another Bel character to help me finish her story, but perhaps I'll wait until after the competition.

In the meantime, since I can't help writing, I guess the subject will be Brand for the time being. In that line of thought...

***

At Fort Amol, Brand turned his faithful steed "Stupid Horse" from the main road and headed up a narrow path leading up into the mountains. The palomino snorted his disdain for Brand's orders, but moved up the trail followed by Lydia. The morning was bright and sunny, but once under the shade of the forest, Brand slowed to a stop and let his eyes adjust to the much dimmer light. He found the beauty of the forest entrancing.

Clothed in soothing deep green shade interspersed with brightly lit glens of glowing emerald and brilliant sunlight the forest was quiet, but with the silence broken by occasional bird calls and the chittering complaints of small animals. Comforted and soothed by the beauty, his mind wandered back to Embershard and his 'Dita as he once again urged Stupid Horse forward.

He'd taken to thinking of her as 'Dita because... well, embarassing as it was, he didn't know her name. He only knew that she was a bandita, and thus she became "'Dita" in the wandering fantasies of his mind. How does it happen that the love of one's life seems to have no name?

While thinking of these things, Brand suddenly was aware of a... screeching? It was coming from just around the next bend, so Brand drew his mace and readied his shield as he cautiosly urged Stupid forward. He was completely unprepared for the sight that met his eyes.

There in a bright splash of sunlight, squarely in the middle of the trail, a sabrecat, a hagraven, and a spriggan were having a free-for-all. Brand's jaw dropped as he took in the action unfolding before him. The sabrecat seemed to switch between attacking the spriggan and the hagraven, the spriggan ignored the big cat as she focused on the hagraven, who for her part spent her time alternating between her to opponents and apparently usng spells to heal herself.

Brand considered joining in, but for the life of him he couldn't decide which side to take or who to attack. He thought it would be better to wait until the three participants ended their dispute, but he was concerned they might decide to join together to attack him and Lydia.

Thinking it over, Brand concludeded that while he was fair at mounted combat, he could do more on foot. He dismounted, and was nearly shoved onto his butt by Stupid Horse who immediately ran to attack the sabrecat. Recovering his footing, Brand saw that Stupid Horse had been joined by Lydia who seemed to be interested in attacking all three of the antagonists at once. At that moment, Brand decided on a new naming convention... Stupid Horse and Stupid Lydia... Who the hell was the boss here, anyway?

With that thought, Brand ran forward casting flames toward the spriggan and the hagraven, then drawing his mace as he closed with them. This should have worked fine, and it did in that the spriggan and hagraven both went to a knee and began healing themselves. Unfortunately, the sabrecat apparently decided that Brand looked like the easiest candidate for lunch, and turned to attack him with a leap.

That first attack by the sabrecat was almost lethal, and Brand was only saved by the fact that Stupid Horse and Stupid Lydia both attacked the sabrecat at once drawing its attention momentarily away from him.

For his part, Brand dodged behind a tree and while chugging down a healing potion, and moved away. After he was feeling a little better, he then turned and took in the scene with a hasty glance. The spriggan and the hagraven had returned to fighting each other, Lydia had turned to join them, and Stupid Horse was still attacking the sabrecat who seemed to have narrowed his world to an obsession with Brand.

The huge cat leaped forward forward to resume his attack on Brand, who took a running leap forward over a large rock... only to find himself falling over the edge of a high cliff that had been hidden behind the rock.

To Brand, the world resolved into a terrific view... Sunny azure sky above, gray stone cliff walls flashing by behind him, and far, far below a river gleamed invitingly like a gem stretched into a ribbon... The river grew ever closer at an incredible pace, and oddly Brand noticed a waterfall on his left seemed to fire an arrow at him... What the hell? Then he hit the water with a tremendous splash, and after a moment of uncertainty, discovered he was alive after all. He was all but dead with only tiny sliver of life left in him but it occurred to him to wonder how one could swim while decked out in full Dwemer armor. It didn't matter, the current swiftly carried him to the far shore where after some time recuperating he was able to cast healing spells on himself.

Brand took in his situation, and realized there was neither enemy nor friend nearby and he could see abridge farther downstream. Nothing for it but to begin walking along the beach. It occurred to him that nobody was ever going to believe this story in the mead halls...

Maxus, that was excellent, and I think Kris has nerves of steel! That part of the MQ gives me the willies, and Mora could make anyone doubt their sanity. I like how he worked out the secret to dragon smithing. :)

Neil, nah, Ake only kicks Gerdie, and with that darn plate armor she always wears, Ake usually only hurts herself, lol. Poor Brand, what a mess to run into. And, how wild is it that he's hooked on a bandit girl whose name he doesn't even know, and dumped off a cliff! He's not having the best of luck!

Neil... nice... I really like the random encounters, they really make for great stories. great read.

Maxus... that is a really good take on that part of the quest... I've never had much use for the dragon armors... but I loved the way Kris made it.

Max, that was very well done! And well-written too - Kris can have Mora (my girls always tell him where to get off).... and figuring out the smithing after reading Ohgma (my girls never use the book either) was a very cool way of handling that.

Wow, Neil. I'm sorry about Bel, you do have all her story so far saved don't you? If not, you'd better go back through the threads and copy it to file on your machine.... Brand has the WORST luck, but that was funny and a very well-told tale!

Ake...#79

"Hello my Nord friend...ah, I have something for you to see." Elrindir reached to pull a quiver of arrows from below his counter, and drew an arrow from it to hand to me. I looked it over, it had an oddly heavy arrowhead, but yet, the whole of it didn't feel unbalanced. I ran my fingers over it, and I could feel it. Enchanted. I looked up at Elrindir, who just smiled slyly and nodded, then said one quiet word. "Boom!" I looked at Kerik and back to the elf, hiding my rising excitement. "How many and how much?" A deal was struck. "I may want more. Can you get them?" He said perhaps, and I knew he would try. I anticipated the moment I could try them out, and I knew just what I wanted to try them on. Thalmor.

We didn't quite make it out the door, there was a strangely accented voice calling out to me to wait. It was a short, slender man, and he introduced himself as Patsy. He then nattered on as how he had been looking for me and thought to try the taverns first. "And here ya are, findin' me instead. Well, I have a letter for ya, and a bit 'o coin fer ya time. Read it, if ya would, it's from Marcus Jannus, and he'd like ta meet ya. Well, sorry , I have many important things ta do now. Fare ya well."

With that he was gone, and I was left gawping. I broke the seal and read. This Marcus Jannus wanted to meet me, and would again provide compensation if I would come to Falkreath. I groaned about the same time Kerik did. We did not want to go there again so soon. At least, I did not. I was wrong though, as it turned out, about why Kerik groaned. "No, not again. We're going to get caught up in something, and I'll not have it, not yet."

My eyes had barely had time to widen in shock before he bent and hauled me over his shoulder, striding out the door. He'll not have it? I shrieked at him to put me down, but he just continued, heading for the city gates. I could hear snickers, and snorts of laughter, and felt my face flush, "What are you doing, and where are we going?" It was hard to speak with my teeth gritted and everything jouncing me as he walked. "We're going to Riften." I wanted to beat on him, or laugh, at the same time. I tried not to struggle, I was afraid he'd drop me, and with my luck, it would be on my head. "Put me down...Kerik!"

"No."

"I will never live this down. Everyone was laughing." I was trying to be angry, and not wholly succeeding. When he dumped me into the carriage, Bjorlam had laughed his fool head off, saying he hadn't seen the like for many a year. What other woman had he seen hauled and dumped then? I didn't ask. And so we reached Riften, and before the moons rose on the second day there, we were married. After, we went to the Bee & Barb, and Kerik gave Keerava, the innkeeper, a pouch of coin for a room, and drinks for all. Then we went to our room. "We can tell the story when we're old and gray, my love," he said. He blew out the candles before taking me in his arms, and I had nothing to say then that I wanted anyone but Kerik to hear.

Oh, Andy - you had me laughing so hard I almost fell out of my chair! That was marvelous - Ake and Kerik together are a hoot!

Veri's Tale:

And he wasn't. In fact, he was nearly as furious about the Blades as Delphine had been about the Greybeards. I sighed, and held up my hands finally. "Look. I didn't ask for any of this. I don't like killing dragons and taking their souls, I don't like being co-opted by antique dragonslayers to deal with this dragon that's resurrecting others, I'd LIKE to just go home to Morthal and live a nice quiet life with my family and my mine - but no one asked me what I wanted, and now I'm stuck with this load of manure because I have too much honor to tell all of you where to go and what to do with yourselves when you get there!" I was shrieking by the time I was done, and shaking, and all but close enough to Arngeir to bite off his nose.

And then tears threatened. I hadn't lost grasp of myself like that since I was a tiny child.... I shook my head, backed away, and whispered "I'm sorry Master Arngeir. I should never have said all that to you. I just - Delphine treated me to the same sort of taking to task over coming to talk to you. I can't keep placating everyone. I'm in this, and I need to finish it to get OUT of this.... I need to learn the Shout and deal with Alduin. And you're the only ones who can help me as far as I know." I wiped tear streaks off my face.

A different voice spoke: "Arngeir. Rek los Dovahkiin, Strundu'ul. Rek fen tinvaak Paarthurnax." My mind translated: "Arngeir. She is Dovahkiin, Stormcrown. She will speak with Paarthurnax". Einarth was telling Arngeir to send me to someone else? How strange.

Arngeir muttered something under his breath, but then turned to me. "So. Yes. I too apologize. You have borne much since you were thrust into Skyrim. I am sorry that I didn't think before speaking. Yes. You will need to speak to the head of our order, Paarthurnax. If you can reach his area on the highest peak, then he will discuss this Shout - and other things - with you. The Shout you seek is called Dragonrend. I do not know it. No one alive knows it. Paarthurnax can tell you how to find it. It was created during the evil times when dragons ruled all and man was slaved to them." He shook his head. "That Shout embodies all the evil, the cruelty, the horror of the rule of the dragons over men. I suppose - you must need it. But it will be up to Paarthurnax to decide if you should learn it.

"In order to reach his aerie, you will need to learn another Shout - come out with me, and I will teach it you."

I bowed to all of them, and followed Arngeir out to the courtyard. There he taught me the three words of the Clear Skies Shout, and gifted me with the knowledge to use them. And I bowed to him again, and said "Master, again I apologize for my anger and inconsiderate behavior. It does not speak well of my honor that I would treat you so. I hope you can someday forgive me."

He shook his head again. "Dragonborn. That alone is a trial that none of us have ever known. I fear that I was myself led astray by anger. The Blades - well.... it is a complex situation. I hope you never need to discover just how complex, but I think that your fate is already locked into that finding...." He pointed me through the north archway, and said "Our leader awaits you. You may find it a trial to reach him - and he will likely be a surprise to you once you do. Winds guide you, Dragonborn."

Lovely. I sighed.

Oh Sere...The way Veri reacted was so real, and no wonder! It would be difficult, at best, for a person versed in the lore and knowledge of dragons to deal with what she is doing right now, much less one from elsewhere, and fey....she would feel everything much stronger I think. That was wonderful!

Heh. Veri has my temper. Believe me, that wasn't even the whole of how I personally would react to all of that crap! And.... I'm a lot "milder" now - than I was 40 or 50 years ago. Oh, let me tell you - "Irish temper" "got her Irish up".... those are calm compared to how I was when younger. Serious.... Of course, once I blow off steam and temper, it's done. I don't often hold grudges.

Eh, when I do though.... you might as well just head for hell, because I'm telling you.... you'll WISH you were there already when I'm done with you.

Andra.... :lmao: Every once in a while... a man just has to be... a man. It is after all why we tend to love them. Mod for the arrows?

Serethil..... Very nice read... As bad as it is to loose the temper, at least she apologized... and got one in return, cause he's a bit in-temperate himself.

Yeah.... I remembered that apology from the second time I got there in the MQ. It surprised me. I didn't remember anything from the first time playthrough....

Areial, the arrows I think are part of the Immersive Weapons? They show in the game as Exotic arrows, and just started showing in my game a couple of levels ago. They're fun, hehe...area of effect types, though better when you hit something with them. I call 'em Rambo arrows, lol. And yeppers, you're right about men being men, LOL

Huh... I had seen them in the list of "arrows" when I console command in some arrow's, but as that's usually begining of the game and because I like the way they look, I just do Orcish arrows. Kurdan will end up with Exploding bolt's for a the crossbow, thank's to Navitas and her Dawnguard "connection".. the Chiss are hard and pretty much he get's "owned" if alone..
