Veri:
....and what my tongue uttered brought that ice-black dragon to the ground. Where I had to deal with him.... Was THAT what the Shout was supposed to do? I didn't know - but damn.... Alduin on the ground was far more formidable than any dragon in the air....
Divines help me. I didn't quite know what to do. So I just Shouted again to give me time to THINK VERI! What.... needs doing.... I need to kill this dragon, and this Shout will help me....
More or less. Less or more. The Dragonrend Shout kept Alduin from flying where he could roast me and everything else. And while he was grounded, my blades drank deep. But I was at risk - and dodging became a way of life. I kept hearing these voices in my mind - who WERE they? Hakon, Felldir, Gormlaith - that last I translated as "Wormsbane".... but there was something - odd - about what those voices told me.
No. I don't.... NO. All you heroes did with that Shout was send him HERE? Oh GODS. And I'm doing the same again, am I not? I collapsed, anguished, as Alduin gave up the current battle - in favor of another day no doubt. But I sobbed - because no matter that I wanted this ENDED - if I could not find a better solution.... there would be no end. Another age would pass - and another Dragonborn would have to deal again with this.... an immortal dragon, returned again to eat everything that made life worth living.
Did Alduin not find life of value? How not? Was he not of Akatosh, the ruler of Time? How could this - abominable - experience keep happening over and over and over - like the worm itself swallowing its own tail....
I collapsed into the snow, sobbing. I was so cold, I expected to die of it. But.... Paarthurnax settled beside me and warmed the air with his breath, then spread a wing over me to shield me from the blizzard that the magics had summoned. And he said.... "I never thought that the mortal races would be so affected by something my brother did as a game. I wish I had, Verinne Ravenwing. Because - there was a time when I could have.... changed that.... but it's far too late now. What happens now - well, you will have to find the way. I am sorry. I wish.... that you had been my daughter...."
I knew no more for - well, I don't really know how long. My soul quailed within me at what I understood needed doing. And that NO ONE could do it if I could not.
Beautifully, perfectly done Sere, gave me goosebumps!! Oh Veri!!
The most interesting part of this paritcular RP tale to me is that - I remember all of this from the first time I played it. So.... late '11 (eh, a VERY long time ago as things go). I've had innumerable girls since then for true. But all of this - all these emotions.... they just happened with Veri (who was NOT the girl I played this on at release.... but then again - they're all "me" in a way.... ain't?)
So.... I don't know - but I like it. And this is helping me work out stuff in Caravan, so it's all grist to the mill....
Serethil... Beautifully written... Poor Veri... rocked to the soul..
Yeah. Sometimes I even make myself cry. Thanks guys!
Excellent work Sere. It's been a really long time for me too since any of my RP's went that far in the main story, but, I remember it being like that for them, too!
Serethil, beautifully done. What a heartbreaking realization for Veri.
Jensa should start her fifth game next week, as the laptop where her game #4 resides is dying. In the meantime here’s an update:
Jensa’s Journal, page 33
Well, I can’t believe we’re still alive. Vilkas and I had a job near Solitude. When we were through I said I’d like to go talk to Jarl Elisif the Fair and see if she’s still holding a grudge over the war. She isn’t. The rest of what happened is a result of my big mouth.
Falk Firebeard saw I was feeling regretful and took the opportunity to ask me for help. It turned out to be the kind of job you give someone when you want them dead. I could tell that Vilkas thought it was a bad idea. “I wouldn’t have expected to listen to someone like you,” he told me. “But Kodlak trusted your judgment, and so will I.”
It took me a while to figure out that’s Vilkas talk for “I hope you only look like an idiot.” Thanks a lot, brother.
Of course we probably should have trusted his judgment instead of mine. We spent two days underground dealing with all kinds of ugly. Then we came out on the side of a cliff. Vilkas did not have a sense of humor about it. We got down without breaking our necks, but it was a long, silent walk back to Solitude.
We got a room so we could rest before we both were tempted to murder Falk Firebeard. That Vilkas is a strange one. He glared at me for days, then he held me like a little kid with a stuffed rabbit as soon as we got somewhere safe. You’d never know he could be so tender. Too bad I can’t wrap my legs around a man I call brother. I wager we’d both have slept better if I had.
Anyway, the whole court was happy when we gave them the news. Then they mentioned some more trouble they were having. Vilkas rolled his eyes at me, but he didn’t need to. I looked at all of the lazy Thanes sitting around and said I was sure they had it covered. We left while they were arguing.
Then we ran into some Shield-Brothers on the road. I was sure happy to see them. We didn’t sneak up on anything the whole way back to Whiterun, but they were good company. That Torvar can talk your ear off, even though he doesn’t really say much.
I’m not sure what I’m going to do next. I feel like going off on my own for a while. I guess I’ll get out on the road and just see where it takes me.
Atop a low hill Brand sat astride his horse and gazed out over the plains just a short way South and West from Halted Stream Camp. Gigantic mammoths moved ponderously near a small pond that lay at the bottom of the low hill. He could see two Giants also moving about their camp that was also on the water's edge, and it reminded him of a recent event.
He'd been prospecting for iron or corundum ore, and his search had taken him across the river and upstream from Riverwood. It was a perfect day, with a slight overcast and the air was not chill. He'd had no horse at the time, so he'd warily walked through a wooded area keeping his eyes open for wolves and anything else that might be hiding behind a tree or in a stand of brush. Nothing has assaulted him, and he'd emerged into a clear area where he caught sight of a small shack ahead of him, and an old woman working in her garden.
Looking forward to a chat, Brand had hailed the old woman with a hearty greeting as he'd trotted forward toward the shack. At his shout, she turned and watched him approach with a slightly suspicious eye.
Just as Brand reached her garden area, a huge wolf ran out of the woods and leaped for his throat with a snarl, and despite his preoccupation with that, Brand had thought he saw something... something huge ...moving out there in a shadowy part of the forest. The old woman raised her hands and with a gesture, covered the wolf with a gout of flame, as Brand raised his mace and shield and swung with deadly effect. The wolf had time for one sharp cry of pain and then it was dead, but... the old woman turned and faced the forest.
With a hasty cry she charged into the shadowy wooded area, and to brand's amazement, attacked a gigantic Spriggan! Momentarily frozen with with the sight, Brand stood with mouth agape and watched as the old woman ran up to the spriggan with heavy waves of flame bursting from her hands, and then... the Spriggan swung a club, and the old woman shot into the air. Higher and higher she went, and Brand watched in awe as she dwindled to a tiny dark speck against the gray sky.
As the tiny speck began to fall, Brand could feel the ground shake with huge running footsteps that were getting way too close. He'd realized that he'd better start moving, and quickly. The Spriggan was almost on him as he'd turned and ran around the shack to a point where he could quickly scrabble his down a fairly high cliff. The ground just behind him shook with the force of a blow from the Spriggan's club, and the wind of it's passing blew him nearly off of the high rock face.
Fortunately, it seemed the Spriggan was not in the mood for rock climbing, and after a few minutes had wandered away back into the forest. Brand explored the shabby cabin, and wondered who the old woman had been and why she lived out here all alone. Near the head of her bed he saw a trap door, but it was locked and he thought perhaps he would return another day to see what was down there, but he hadn't returned.
Now as he sat his horse near Whiterun, he wondered... What if the giant matron Sriggan were female Giants? He'd never seen a female giant, nor met anybody who claimed too (except for some wild accounts by not-so-credible drunks of mad love trysts in dark forests). The thought made him snicker, as he speculated as to what the child of such a union might look like.
After a moment, he gave Stupid Horse a slight kick in the flanks, and rode on toward his goal. Redoran's Retreat and a bandit chief with a price on his head waited patiently for Brand's arrival. Shouldn't keep them waiting, eh?
Grits, sorry to hear about your computer! Well, that's Vilkas for you, don't know whether to smack him or kiss him, lol, but I still like him. Potema's place is nasty! Good update, I'll be anxious to see what Jensa gets into on her own, hehe.
Neil, giant spriggans??? OMG, the normal size are bad enough! Eek, giants breeding with spriggans, that's just not right, LOL Glad he managed to get away, and without getting on the bad side of she who went into orbit! Good read!!
Grit's..... Nice... Vilkas, such a sweetie, but He often need's a cast iron frying pan upside the head.
Neil... Gotta love that Spriggan matron, my first trip through, I lost my dog to it.
Well, that answers my question (mentally expressed - I don't think I posted it? But I might have.... dunno....) about giantesses.... Grits and Neil - I thoroughly enjoyed both Jensa's and Brand's latest adventures!
Okay, this next bit is going to take me some time. I REFUSE to mess with the CW quest line, so I'm going to have to "write around" it (even more than I've written around other things already....) So.... I'm thinking about it, but it might take me a day or two....
If anyone has any ideas about how to slant it, hit me - I'm all ears.
Oh. Hmmm. I might have just figured it out. I'll write it up and see how it looks/reads before posting.... still, any ideas are welcome!
Neil's imagination... sorta... but a Gaint Spriggan Matron or other form, is from http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/24913/?. Their is a "lore" friendly version, but the original one is fine with me. Not only different creatures, but "pack's" of wolves.. pup's included... bear's with cub's and yearlings...etc. The Snow Sabre kitten's are adorably dangerous! I've never gotten a pic of one for some reason.... http://i.imgur.com/Qi9vMYk.jpg
