Well, I usually start with a Dunmer because they are pretty much immune to fire attacks, which a lot of the low level critters throw at you. But I figure it'll be cold attacks for the low-level stuff in Skyrim, so I may start with a Nord.

Then when I've figured out that I've picked the wrong race, and the wrong birthsign, and have raised the wrong stats --- this usually takes about three hours of play -- I'll start a Breton. At that point I'll realize I haven't figured out the magic system well enough to use a lot of magica and try a woodelf. The woodelf will be annoying after the first half-hour and I'll try another nord and just hit things again for a while.

Sooner or later I'll figure out what I understand best about the system and stick with that through the main quest. Eventually I'll play about every race at least once if only for a couple of hours.

Ill be a Nord warrior with focus on Smiting(Im assuming thats the skill) and Enchanting(only "magic" skill I'll use on him)

If I make a male Nord, I'll name him something nordic-sounding like Hrothgar or Kjalgar, with something extra like Ice-Beard if it fits. If I play as a male Dunmer, I'll probably name him Savor Rethan in honour of my Hlaalu character in Morrowind, or more probably I'd give him a more Redoran surname as I'd be roleplaying as an ex-Redoran.

Well, my current Oblivion char is a Nord named something like Hulthgar the Edge, a warrior/hunter, survivor kind of character. I will problably go with something along the lines of that if I play the Nord way... I would use the same char, but it just seems wrong for roleplay reasons Get a nord sounding name and then a nickname. Abercrombie's style
