Characters you played in Arena?

1) I have no idea how many ppl still play this once in a while, but if you enjoyed playing this, what characters did you try out?

I am having a blast with a Redguard Assassin ! At lvl 15, that ebony blade is doing truckloads of critical strikes (btw, i find it cool having that message showing up often...). It also practically prevents me from having to take many healing potions or resting often.

The first time I tried though (1994... he he he...) I did great with a Dark Elf Battlemage. THAT was a powerful one...

I was wodnering about a Redguard Ranger, as the description says a Ranger adds his level to all damage calcs ? Anyone tried this?

2) I have always had a question in mind, in regards to whether the racial bonuses are actually applied or not. Specificially, in my case the Redguard would be adding (lvl 15 / 3 = +5) to all hit and damage (and the damage is before any criticals kick in). Is that correct? I think I read somewhere that Daggerfall was NOT computing stuff like this, and I have no way to know if the same would be happening to Arena as well.

3) Last but not least, I know you can wear two Amulets and two Rings the same time (only one of each must be an artifact), but in case you get the Rings of Phynaster and Khajiit, can you wear both? If so, will they add their AR bonuses?

thx - pdesbois

EDIT: For those so much interested (...), I can confirm that wearing the Rings of Khajiit AND Phynaster the same time will add EACH their described -6 to AR. The same does not happen with amulets - Wearing the Necromancers Amulet (-9 AR) AND Ebony Amulet (-5 AR) will not add to -14 AR (just the Necro's apply). But if you want to wear say Necro Am AND a Willpower Amulet, you will get the +25 bonus to the attribute - you have to first equip the Willpowe rAmulet and after that equip the Necrom Am. If you do otherwise, you get the message 'you cannot wear two amulets at the same time'.

EDIT 2: Actually, my above EDIT was wrong in what concerns equipping Necro Amulet and another Amulet. They add each of their AR boni. By some reason, I wasn't getting them to, but after using the Necro Amulet, repairing and re-equiping, everything was fine. My Redguard Assassin is now at lvl 18, with AR -44 and dishing out a fanfarre of Criticals.

As an Arena obsessive, I did them all at least once.

It's pretty hard to tell whether it's actually doing what it says it does, since damage is variable in any case. And once you get a really good weapon (yup, the Ebony Blade is seriously unbalancing), it hardly matters.

Regarding your AR testing, reducing AR comes with diminishing returns. The code was written so that even a rat has an x% chance of hitting you irrespective of your AR. Getting it down to -20 is probably as good as getting it down to -40. IIRC the best I ever got was -57...something like that, anyway. Yeah, I ruled. ;)

Thx Dr Memory, I noticed that AC thing too - my Assassin has -39 AC, yet wolves and skellies sometimes hit him as if he had half that....

btw, do you know if that artifact 'Lords Mail', is it leather or is it plate? i vaguely remember having played as a character 12 years ago questing for it and could not wear it - i dont remember if it was as a Knight or as a Battlemage... I think it was as a Knight, coz I was really upset that I did qeust for it and could not wear it (Knights cannot wear leather...).

Thx - pdesbois

I remember the Knight's autorepair was fairly handy.

Is that why items never degrade for me?

Anyway, as in Daggerfall and Morrowind, I always play as a Dark Elf knight. In Oblivion, I play as an Imperial knight. Dark Elf and Imperial are the only two races I ever play in Elder Scrolls games and knight(pre-made and custom) is the only class I ever use.

yes, if u r Knight, armor and weapons never degrade, except for artifacts.

if ur item has passwall e.g., i think using its properties will be just like with any other class.

EDIT: I guess I can answer my own question: The Lord's Mail is really a Plate mail.

Of all the people I was asking for Rumours-General, the options were always the same, and excluded items I could not wear (shield and Plate armor). So I guess you do not anymore get a quest for an item u cannot wear (I hated that, I think i was playing with a spellsword and thought Lords mail was chain or leather, as the Ebony was already a plate).

Curiously, I was getting rumours about the items i left repairing... imagine having two ebony blades...

Yes, you can have any number of Ebony Blades if you are so inclined. All that would do, though, is make it less often you'd have to get them repaired. If you were a Knight, it would be pointless (other than for sheer awesomeness).
