so... it's not completely useless!

No seriously, I've had that laying around forever. Couldn't figure out where to store it. Food? Smithing? Alchemy?

Honestly now knowing what it's for I'll probably just sell it to the nearest merchant. It was one of the first couple of items I encountered in the game and I thought "ooooo! Coal! Maybe I can make torches or other cool things".

nope.avi

Why do all the blacksmiths buy and sell it then? Hahahaha. I always wondered if I was going to eventually unlock some use for it. Nope, just junk. heheh

Same. I got trolled big time in keeping it all thinking it was worth something. Blacksmiths, alchemists, and more (random traders, misc supplies, etc.) all sell it and it's for 1 quest and 1 quest only. And making 1 type of scroll. Lol nothing even remotely related to making torches or blacksmithing or anything of the sort.

Yeah I have a stack of this stuff in a dresser in one of my houses. Had no idea what to store it with and never found a use for it so it began what I call "The crap dresser" aka the dresser full of useless garbage that I can't be bothered to sell because it has such low value. This dresser is full of everything from dishes to horker tusks. I only ever found the one use for the charcoal and the place I needed it was full of the crap anyway so I didn't even have to pull any away from my stash. I figure one day I'll have collected enough of the junk loot that I can empty the dresser and cover the floor of Dragonreach with it all.

Seems like they could do something awesome with Rolls of Paper, Charcoal, and the Enchanting Alter.

Word. I find myself casting annoyingly blue Candlelight spells to see in dark places more than using torches since I've found maybe 10 over the course of 60+ hours.

Actually, when I first got it, I was wondering how to combine with iron ore to make steel ingot.

There is a blacksmith mod which changes the steel recipe to iron and charcoal, making it needed and more in line with reality than what is default.

I would guess that it was planned to be used to smelt ore into ingots, but that never got implemented.

Technically if you really want it to be realistic you should need charcoal to even use the smelter and forge, since charcoal is the fuel being burned to heat them up.

It has two uses...
"Aside from a single Thieves Guild quest, charcoal is also used to make Atronach Summon Scroll at the Atronach Forge. "
Aside from meaning one for thieves guild and one for making atronach scrolls...

There are far fewer useless items in this game than there were in Morrowind and Oblivion, so I'm not complaining.
