I am on level 98...and at times(rarely) I come across the charred feral ghouls. They are muscle built up , 6 packs and all...and ofcourse muddy charred.

whats the story behind them (I thought the putrid, glowing ones...were the final ghoul bosses or leaders of their pack)

I'm in my 60s and I just came across one for the first time. They are pretty tough for sure.

mobs in fallout have different difficulty levels , and the last difficulty level is a mob type that scales with player level , that means if u have lvl 200 they will also be lvl 200 : example : Charred Feral Ghoul , Super Mutant Warlord

what's the story with them?

I don't know but for a while last week i kept getting mobs of them, Mrs Parker, Mrs Rosa and the rest of the family kept appearing at some of the random foe spawn points.

It was about 6 times in a row. They were pretty tough and radioactive.

I had to blow there arms and legs off and watch them wriggle on the ground like maggots.

I nearly died a couple of times because i don't wear much armour.

The special ability of the Glowing One is that it can resurrect fallen ghouls so I always try to kill that one first.

im assuming they were charred by nuke blasts during the war.

Never seen one, I always thought the Withered Ghouls were the toughest.

Yeah, charred are the tippy top. They start at level 62. However, I don't see a lot of them. ,, Of course since certain areas are level locked, if you've already run through an area of ghouls at a low level then they'll stay around that same level on respawn. Areas start at certain levels but the highest is 45.. So if you were lower than 45 in a 45 level area then creatures can get locked at 45. Some areas are not level locked however so you'll still get some good high level spawns sometimes. It just happens a lot less often than if you had held off on going to an area until a really high level.

The story behind them? They were fried and now they have Arnold Schwarzenegger's body and tough to kill.

Cuz science that's why.

They're like hot dogs, they plump when cooked.

I've seen one of these guys maul a deathclaw to death in under a minute.
