Chat bubbles for local say

Post » Mon Mar 10, 2014 5:49 am

Think it's a bad idea? Could be an option you can toggle on/off. I dare say it will help immersion to have comic style chat bubbles when players chat in local /say. I don't like the chat window to be honest. Everything is muddled down in the corner I hardly pay any attention to it.

Maybe someone can make an add-on mod for it.

Chat bubbles are especially needed in this game because no one has their name above their heads, so when someone says something you actually have to cycle through characters to see their names.

This has been discussed to death. I really want chat bubbles, but I'm so tired of fighting for them. I'm just waiting for the addons at this point.

I agree with this, you don't know who's speaking when there are several players around.

My question is, why are we still using antiquated text based communication for gaming in 2014? Haven't we evolved from cave drawings?

The game needs to support voice chat, with the volume articulated pending the distance from any given player. That way you don't hear everyone in a zone and only characters within range.

I hate the way you can hear generic NPC banter from across the town as if you were in their pocket.

wouldn't chat bubbles be a problem to make the graphics heavier?

like they said that thing about particles earlier, they might have some want in it, but too much around and it'd get very heavy-....

I don't really care as long as it is a toggle feature. However, they have said no a few times to this already.

It is great for PvE, but it would be pure chaos on your screen in Cyrodiil.

Not the way I see it, I'm afraid. This is a request, while still text based, on a personal character interaction. PvPers involved in the war effort will be mic'd up with 3rd party voice comm.

Positional audio for NPC banter really is a must, and voip tools for groups would also be very welcome, but I would not want voice communication to replace textual chat for general purposes. Having to listen to others talk all the time would be extremely tiresome, even more so when many people are talking in a small area. I'd probably hardly ever say a word because I hate to intrude on other people's conversations.

Textual chat (and typing) is a lot more relaxed. And easier to ignore when/if you want to, without disabling it altogether.

I don't see it as being any different than talking in a room of people in RL. It is an actual chore to break out of gameplay and type in a conversation. I come here for that. When in game, I want to play. I come to the forum to type.

Agreed, way too cartoonish. Floating text looks a lot less stylized and would suit TESO better.

I mentioned the need for it in my survey, but I definitely wouldn't want it to be "comic style". Something tasteful, please; with an option to turn it off.

this is a bad idea...unless everytime you see a fat old altmer named the same, run back with a lighting staff in attack position yelling "WWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" to invade your conversation everytime he runs past

I imagine it goes against their invisible UI philosophy, but would hope they'd just give us the option of turning it on or off.

Had that in APB, god it made me hate life. If it were ever added, I'd hope they'd make it for your faction alone.

It might be the next logical step, but in all reality it is not the best option...I mean, have you played Call of Duty on xbox? I know i have....

I have not, nor will I ever have the even the slightest desire to do so.

EDIT :

This is even more off topic than derailing a chat bubble discussion with voice chat dialog. For that, I apologize to the OP.

Well then let me explain it to you, the only reason I have a head set, is that I can mute everyone else in the lobby I am not talking too. Music spam, static spam, 5 year old kids trash talking about how they been all up in your mom, racism to the extremes, Spaz attacks, whining, autotune..and not the good kind...everything that you dont want to hear while playing a video game. You well have to hear

Parties are exhausting and that's not the feeling I'd like to have while I'm playing a game to relax. Taking or giving structured orders by VOIP I can deal with, though.

And as far as roleplay is concerned, text leaves a lot more up to the imagination and thus allows immersion. Players' voices rarely suit the characters they play, and it's even worse when someone wants to play a cross-gender character (which I'm perfectly fine with). High-pitched, girly orcs and high elf women with hoarse, deep male voices. Eh.. no thanks
