Chat bubbles please!

Post » Fri Feb 28, 2014 11:05 am

i feel chat bubbles will make the immersion factor amazing.

looking at a stale chat box not knowing who around you has said what kills it for me...

its pretty much chat bubbles or i might not get the game, thats how important i feel they are.

Pros of Chat bubbles:

1. Better for intimite 2-3-4 person conversations

2. More "Trade" freindly

3. Stops area chat from being spammed like mad

4. Stops random players conversations in groups from being forced into others face having to read them in Area chat.

5. Immersion and a feeling of a more personalised experience while dealing with other players.

6. Being able to actually see WHO said WHAT.

Cons of chat bubbles:

1. Come on there arent any, what are you losing by having them?? NOTHING.. dont tell me a chat window with everyone in it = immersion

Make the immersion factor amazing? Funny, in other threads on this topic people have said that chat bubbles ruin immersion...

Opinions vary. For me, having the words attached to the 'toons speaking them adds life to the world. Guessing the OP feels similar.

For others, having 'words' flooding the screen is cartoony garbage, or a distraction.

The best thing, obviously, would be ingame voice with proximity filters. But I'm not sure the tech is there for stable performance without some other serious sacrifices.

I'd like CB's for the RP factor. I would rather players hawked their crafted wares like this than spam chat, especially if there isn't a trade channel. In fact I want draconina measures taken against spamming chat. Neverwinter chat, when I last played was practically unusable due to trade spamming.

i dont get why people would prefer to look at the bottom left of screen to see people talking rather than chat bubbles connected to the person that spoke....

seems silly i REALLY want chat bubbles.

Eh, I'm a little bit mixed about it myself. I personally don't care about the "immersion" factor, but more concerned about the functionality. On one hand, having someone's message appear over their heads in the world draws attention to it. I'm not always looking down at chat, so sometimes someone might be trying to get my attention or ask a question and I just plain won't notice. Chat bubbles help to avoid that by putting the message right where I'm going to see it. On the other hand, if there are a lot of people in an area talking then my whole screen pretty much becomes chat bubbles.

I dont want it, but i see no reason why it shouldn't be a toggle-able option, as long as implementing it won't take too much dev time.

This.

If ZOS actually decides to spend the time to implement them, make them optional please. I find them quite ugly tbh.

I could go for this as an option in the menu that you could turn on and off.

its not about Ugly or not ugly, its about immersion and knowing who the hell is talking.. if you are standing in a group "chatting" you will be looking at the bottom left corner of the screen at a chat box being spammed by everyone and there dog instead of looking at the actual player that said it. it stops things being lost in an ocean of chat spam and creates a more personalised chat function.

I don't get why people would prefer having the screen cluttered up with annoying chat bubbles when they are trying to see what they are doing.

Seems silly.

I'm just pulling your leg, no offence. But really it is a subjective thing and I personally have never liked them.

I don't want chat bubbles but would be happy if the devs added them ONLY if there was an option to disable them.

If he says he finds them ugly and doesn't want them, who are you to tell him he is wrong? He is making a subjective opinion. I don't want them but I respect the fact that you do and as long as they can be switched off then we will all be happy.

I am a roleplayer and I have never liked them as I feel they spoil my immersion. It's my opinion and I am neither right or wrong.

I would rather stick with a chatbox. Most comps will have a hard time coping if you have loads of idiots in a zerg spamming rubbish.

If bubbles are implimented, then have it as an option only.

Yes. Optional. Would get cluttered with a large group of people which is why I don't see them doing this.

is here a pool for this? It should have option to say:

- I played MMOs (not minecraft) more then 6 months and I do not want chat bubbles.

I would like chat bubbles - it is obvious if you want to say to random players around, but there is no voice that in real world could give you pure author of what you said from voice, in game it must be done by chat to keep immersion. If not it will be just some anonymous line in chat.

In other words immersion requires that say bubble are in game.

What if it ruins my immersion? You can't really tell me what my immersion is, can you? It's a subjective thing. Not to mention the screen would get cluttered quickly.

And having played on weekend beta + PTS, I can tell you the chat spam really isn't that much of an issue if you organize your chat categories. Just shut off zone chat and just keep guild/party chats on, and you won't be dealing with half as much spam.

There is no local chat, I mean there is zone chat (the whole map you can see or the dungeon you're in, etc), an area chat, but there is no "face to face" chat, which I find odd in an mmo that promote face to face trading.

I literally tried to trade with people, talking to them in the chat window, and it felt so detached that I got no answer.

They should make a "face to face" chat, make chat bubbles optional AND have a trade chat window.

exactly - there is no voice yell in game (that is good - but it is also an option to try), so how can someone get attention from payers around?

In reality you can yell and people might like it or not, but in game there must be some way to say something. For all that say too much there is blacklist option so no need to turn off bubbles completely.

There is a local chat it's /say iirc.

If they could put /say in a chat bubble that would probably work out well...

the /say chat feels, to me anyway, that it's this "area" chat I speak of, basically it gives me, and possibly the player I try to talk to, a feel that's its just the chat that the whole town can see, there is no personal feel like im talking to the guy in front of me.

Instead of a chat bubbles, just have a seperate /say chat, for roleplayers. Or the option of a chat bubble along customisation e.g. pink chat bubbles, green chat bubbles, blue chat bubbles, chat bubbles with a dragon frame, chat bubbles with a lion frame, chat bubbles for everyone!

Seriously though, if implemented, make it optional. I wouldn't mind having them. They give me that nostalgic Japanese Roleplaying Games feeling.

I always liked chat bubbles with the name and picture of the character (usually painted or drawn) you're talking to, on the top left or right. I don't see this happening in ESO however.

Im flexible and open-minded, so i wouldn't mind any of these things, as long as its customisable.
