Cheat code to boost lockpick skill

Post » Sun Oct 17, 2010 1:12 am

I'm stuck in The Replicated Man. From what I've learned from some googling, there's a bug that removes the relevant questions from the dialogue with Dr. Preston (as well as the other doctors I've tried talking to.) To get on with the quest, I have to get inside the bow of the Rivet City ship and talk to Pinkerton, but do it without a key to the door in the hull. When I frob the door, it says the lock can be only be picked with a 100% rating in lockpicking.

So, is there some cheat out there that will let me boost my lockpicking skill to 100% (and, preferrably, let me scale it back down to my current 55%)?

TIA,

JT

If you're playing on the PC, you can use the console (by pressing the ~ key) to change your lockpicking skill. If you are playing on 360 or PS3 then no, it is not possible.

A key to that door doesn't exist anyway. There's an underwater entrance into the Broken Bow.

OK... Could you tell me the exact command, please?

If the entrance is underwater, I'd guess I could go for a swim... :)

I'd be happy to hear what Dr. Preston would have told me, too.

It should be: player.modav lockpick 45

Typed exactly like that. The 45 is how much it will add to your lockpick skill (your current level is 55, so that will make it 100). Might want to save before you try this, just in case.

Also, using a negative value will bring it back down to 55, so when you want to change it back, just make it a -45.

For that matter, you could just stand in front of that door, open the console, click the door, type unlock and then press Enter. Close the console and the door should open.

Having used the official route a gazillion times, I use this nowadays. But I recommend any first timer to find the underwater route, even if it's a tad annoying.

I agree with you completely - just pointing out another way to skin the cat.

You've got to experience drowning a half dozen times, then finally making it through, thinking your home free, only to party with the mirelurks, at least once in your FO3 career. B)

I ended up taking a swim. Funny guy, this Fallout character. He can move unhindered with hundreds of pounds in rifles, and other cumbersome hardware, unhindered, yet can't hold his breath to save his life. :P And those mirelurks are TOUGH!

Still, worth going through --- thanks for all the help :)

This is the code for 100%, you need to type it in each time you play the game:

setgs flockskillbase 100

the underwater entrance is pretty easy, all you have to do is remember to swim up to the air pockets so you don't drown, once you do thats its easy to get in the ship, once you're inside there is a lever to unlock the door.

Agreed.
One problem is that your lungs don't ache in proportion to how long you have been under water, as in real life.
Another is that I don't think boyancy is properly simulated, so as to at least give you a sense of where up is.
And of course one has to remember that time is accellerated in-game.

Mirelurks used to be tough. Now, two shots, max, into the face, with Gauss rifle, will kill it.

But Mirelurk Kings, they are still tough.
