It was probably just for the demo. they can fit more things in to show you if they are able to just go through them really quick.

He is running a demo version in the video. They have 'Dev cheats' I doubt these will be released to the public since they would make the game more like GTA and not Fallout.

yea i kinda thought maybe was dev controles :/ but maybe...

honestly i hear alot about "omg itll be GTA/omg it won't be fallout" but honestly, there already are cheats included in the PC version so no, it wont mess the game up. if you wana go use them in the start of the game, well go ahead you spent the 60--80$, but most of us do play through first, and then we wana mess around right? cheats only add a bit of fun for when your gona mess around. they can make it like saints row 2 and other games: activate cheats and that game save cant unlock achievements any more. others can, and achievements that you got before cheating stay, so all is fine.

they aren't really cheats in the GTA sense on the PC. you are accessing the development console to alter the game world. with GTA you enter a button sequence and you get certain things. with the command console it's almost like altering the code to add or change things in the game.

i dono sounds the same to me lol...people use it the same from what i hear :P

still, i relize we dont want fallout to begome GTA butcheats have been found in games from medal of honor(the first ps game) to gta and others, just as no cheats have been part of many games, cheats dont make the game good or bad, and i dont really see why some people would make a big deal over them since they are compleatly option.

the diffrence between cheats vs no cheats is this:

no cheats:
go through the game
do all there is
repeat a few times

cheats:
go through the game
do all there is w/o cheats
repeat a few times
repeat again with cheats

its a little boost, not hugely important, but sometimes you just like to mess around with things right?

cheats cheapen (pun!) the game experience for me. I will play a game for much longer if i don't cheat than if i do.

If i dont cheat then every time i play and come across an obstacle i can think of a new and creative solution each time. that adds more replay value to me than being able to get guns/ammo/armor/health/godmode in a few button presses.

If i do cheat then all there really is to do is kill a lot of people and pretty much dominate the game. Then the game starts to get boring with cheats because nothing offers any challenge, and if i try to go back to not using cheats i get bored with my inability to do anything i want. sort of a catch-22 situation arises for me.

i just don't like cheats because it makes the game get stale for me faster. I like the longevity these kind of games offer, for me cheats shorten the games life span to pretty much the few hours spent using the cheats.

i too am like that if i cheat at the start :P

but i dont, i dont even like cheating at the start(exept in gta for which is solely meant for cheating imo) so i wait, ill play through once (or more depending on the game...fallout 3 i got alottta play throughs before i cheat) then when i start getting bord, ill wait a bit till im at the edge and then ill cheat, which can help extend game play if theres a good array of cheats.

point is, you gota wait till the very end but it can work in fine...and if its not for you, its also completely optional :P

While I can mostly agree on not using cheats the first time through(on some games they were the only reason I got pasted certain points of the game), I do wish that more games had unlockable cheats in them. I don't care if it turns off achievements while it is activated(and only while it is activated, not use a cheat and you can never earn achievements on that save crap.)
The fact that console players are unable to tinker with the game so they access stuff like pc players does annoys me sometimes(no offense to those that play on their PCs). Why not allow console players to use those cheats.
I would love fallout to reward those that beat the game with the G.E.C.K(Game Editing Console Key) when creating a new character that allows them to turn cheats on and off. But that is me and It is already to late to add that.
So I will just have to be happy with any glitches that help the player we find in Fallout: New Vegas.

The one thing that would be nice about adding some limited console commands for the console users is that some commands can allow us to bypass bugs and issues. Mothership zeta is a good example of where the Disable command made all the difference for me when the kid failed to open one of the critical doors. My friend on the console couldn't do that, and it seemed to me that allowing some limited console admin commands would not be a bad thing. We on the PCs already have the entire universe of console commands to play with, and that would clearly go beyond what one Can do on the consoles. But there isn't any reason in my admittedly limited view that would prevent them from adding at least Some of the commands. (God Mode, Clipping, Disable, etc).

IMHO

Eh.. It's a single player game. If someone likes cheating or requires it so he or she can enjoy a game. I say let 'em cheat. It's all about how you want to play the game and it harms nobody. I myself see it as a waste of game because I play games for a challenge. But it's my preference and play style which will certainly not be why everyone else plays a video game. My nephew for example is 22 y/o and still cheats because he svcks. He hardly plays any games besides at night before bed. I see nothing wrong with it. That's his play style and likely someone else. If it were multiplayer I could understand animosity on the subject but that is not the case of New Vegas.

Well the dev console isn't really cheats. They have a lot of usefull stuff in it. Like if you get stuck then pop in TCL and walk out of the stuck and turn it off. I have been saved from restarting my whole game (Or reloading sometimes) plenty of times with using some simple commands to help me out.

Edit: Then I cheat for fun too :P Getting the cut stuff. Or unavailable things. (SatCom ICBM Launcher anyone?)

The GECK actually is a take off from the in game GECK (Garden of Eden Construction Kit). And the main reason that Sony/Microsoft doesnt generally allow "Cheats" or command console is that it would be too easy to get the achievements.

all they gota do is like they did in saints row.

if you activate cheats and save that file cant get achievements any more, however other saves can so its not like you can never get the achievements again.

When we're showing New Vegas, we typically use a 360 dev kit. These allow for console commands through a keyboard. I've even used save files with god mode, etc. turned on already -- so I don't need to input the command using a keyboard.

Those won't be in the final game.

is there a reason they wont be in the final game? (also, assuming they WILL[or something similar] be in the PC version?)

P.S
thanks mr.staff member, always nice to hear from you guys :P

The console commands will be in the PC version as long as they release a mod kit. The dev console on the PC is not there for the purpose of cheating. It's there to allow developers to test their content by allowing them to see what's happening "under the covers" in the game engine, changing variables to test in-game behaviors, etc. These tools are vital for modders to test their mods, just as they're vital for the developers at Obsidian and Bethesda to test their content and scripts. Because these are not cheats and have none of the safeguards real cheats would have if they were put in place by the developers you can actually really screw up your game (or somebody else's game) by messing around with console commands if you don't know what you're doing.

My guess is that if it weren't for modders they'd probably disable the dev console in the PC version as well.

its a good answer, but the fact is that the pc players DO get them and alot DO use them as fun little cheats. i think its only fair to add similar commands into the other console versions, no?
