Los Angeles. Or,

Right by Bootysweat's house, whichever is the most significant to you. (lol)
The guy lives in downtown LA! Cool.

I'm still just really impressed by the artistry. I'm having a hard time fathoming how much perspective you have to keep in mind to be able to paint a 3x3 sq foot piece of this thing and still have some idea how it's supposed to fit into the whole.

Impressive in a lot of ways, that.

In the left corner it looks like it says ESRB RR or RP is that like that they haven't put a certain age yet? (Rating Pending)?
It's and awesome poster.
Omg look in the right corner a 5 minute express car wash sweet!

It's about 2 blocks away.

LOL yeah you can get your car washed after the same pigeon that crapped on Skyrim craps on your car.

BTW in the bottom left corner it says "Rating Pending"

Here's a birds-eye view of the convention center. The Skyrim ad is on the building at the top-right corner.

The wall of the building is flat and has no windows, but it's also near the convention center. At some point in the past the owners of the (hotel?) thought it would be wise to rent out that huge amount of wallspace.

From what I can tell, what they do is hang an enormous canvas/tarp/sheet of something and then paint the picture by hand with a whole team of people. The tarps have been seen to be re-used, but they don't last forever. Last year the FF tarp was painted over the previous year, but this year it looks like Skyrim gets a fresh one.

I'm pretty sure it's a digital wallpaper type thing they are gluing to the wall in sections.

I work in marketing and sometimes we make huge outdoor advertising images - nothing quite this large so far, but usually nobody is painting anything by hand.

Computers are impressive tools, capable of things that would be truly incredible if done "by hand." Like scaling an image up to the size of a bulding, then dividing it up into a grid and printing it out in 3X3 foot sections that are numbered so a window washer can paste them up in the proper order.

EDIT: They're everywhere: :ninja:

Ah, thanks for the great answer. Pretty awesome that they can paint something in those conditions, the wind must make it tricky

Does it look like he's standing on the bank of a river? Is that water in the right side of the pic?

Clearly you are the one that has been missing the point of the thread, we have all been waiting for the electric thingie to show the dates of the Taylor Swift live shows. The Skyrim ad is just a plus.

I wonder what http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Owyn would say about such a rumor.

Yep. And if you look at the left side, it's fairly clear that it's not only the bank of a river, but one that flows over a cliff on the left side of the image. Left edge, just above the sword blade- rocks end, trees very distant. Cliff. River. Waterfall. :)
