I've been wanting to do a dark setting with the undead, werewolves, vampires, phantoms, the whole deal, within the harsh medieval fantasy setting of Elder Scrolls for quite some time now. The RP will be set in the "ImmortalBlood Timeline" Universe and will follow the story so far. For those not familiar, the basic background is that after the OB Crisis, the Summerset Isles lead by the Altmer, break away from the Empire. In a bloody war, the Empire's tired legions lose not only the Isles but Valenwood as well reforming the Aldmeri Dominion. In this moment of weakness, the Redguard Crown Prince seizes power in Hammerfell driving out the Empire as well. Meanwhile, Skyrims western cities band together forming a loose Confederation and take control of eastern portions of High Rock forming a semi independent/autonomous region.
The specific area that interests us is Whiterun. A necromancer witch and her underlings have taken over the city and the surrounding area through the use of the "Death Veil", a powerful enchantment created by a Daedric pact between Namira and Vaermina. This enchantment causes any living who die in Whiterun and the surrounding area, to rise up as her minion. We'd basically have a "zombie zone" in and around Whiterun. Within this area we will also have 4 villages of each cardinal direction that is ruled by one of the witch's underlings.
The flow of the RP will be adventure paced and a throw back to the old classical party system RPGs where you have certain archtype characters. Of course we'll have our own creative spin to everything. Each challenge will be semi moderated by me and exploring a different aspect of the horror motif while allowing maximum freedom. We'll have to navigate a hostile environment avoiding both the dangers of the undead, but also the people who have remained. Our purpose will be to dethrone the necromancer witch and her underlings by first liberating the villages around Whiterun and then striking there. Now you may wonder why there just wouldn't be an army sent to deal with this. Unfortunately any deaths within the army would simply reinforce the horde of undead.
Here's some artwork that sort of represents the setting i'm trying to bring forth through writing:
