Cherchez le Femme/Confirmed Bachelor

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:15 pm

Are these perks meant to be the gay versions of Black Widow/Lady Killer? That's sort of the vibe I get from the artwork associated with them, but perhaps I'm thinking too much. Either way, I find them both cool, as I plan on making a tough as nails lisbian who rolls with Cass on my first playthrough. Having dialogue that supports her preference would be great.

I think so. I do hope taking them doesn't rule out the hetero versions, It would be nice if they gave you true freedom to make your characters bisixual.

I wonder, since Arcade is gay does that mean having confirmed bachelor will open up "special" dialogue with him? I don't really want this to become like Mass Effect with romancing companions and all, but it is food for thought, if it works for him, who else can we romance?

Spoiler
Lily the Super Mutant? Awww yeah son!

Spoiler
Just think, you get that perk that let's you eat super mutants, and it gives you the dialogue option "Lily, I just wanna eat you all up!" Then Lily says "Come back here and give your grandma some sugar!" *Fade to black*

YOU WILL NEVER HEAR THAT LINE THE SAME WAY AGAIN

I think it would make your character bisixual, there'd be no reason to take away the Lady Killer options after picking Confirmed Bachelor.

I was actually thinking about making another female character that falls in love with Boone... sad I know, but my imagination runs wild sometimes.

Well the only reason to take away the other one would be because it gives you a 10% damage boost to all human enemies, not just one gender. Some might say it's not balanced, but Black Widow was unbalanced anyway because most enemies were male.

Yeah but that fem thing, idk what that means, but 'Confirmed Bachelor' was a polite 1950s way of calling a man gay. So thats where the speculations come from.

Yeah, while talking about his life, he says how boring he is and the only reason that "some eligible bachelor hasn't swept him off his feet" (note: eligible bachelor, not bachelorette) is because he's boring.

i dont care he is gay, he seems like a pretty cool character.

i have a feeling a lot of immature 13 year olds will hear that line and be like "omg arcades gay" then kill him.

im picking confirmed bachelor anyway because most enemies are male, but i will pick lady killer also.

Yes it is the gay version of them and i believe you may be able to actually pick both perks. I wouldn't really say it'd make your character gay just more that their capable of sweet talking someone of the same gender. Personally I plan to try out the Cherchez le Femme perk on one character and the black widow on the other. I'm curious to see if there's any points where the perk is actually usable against straight characters.

Well, it depends on what you do with that sweet talking I suppose, if you go to Gomorrah and use it to get a "special dance" from a male dancer, I think it definitely makes your character gay.

I already don't. Thanks to .45 and Ermey

I already know I'm making a bisixual female, second playthrough. First playthough is a straight male.

Well yeah it's hard to argue with that. But i think just sweet talking someone into giving you an item or letting you into a restricted area would be fine.

Wow you guys are a bit slow.

Confirmed Bachelor is usually a playboy type of person. Could be gay or straight.
Not getting married has nothing to do with sixual orientation.

The perk picture has you massaging another dude, about to stab him in the back. Equating love with murder, eh? Who is this "Vault Boy" anyway Shakespeare? I guess VB "Loved too much..."

Then they would have to change the name of the club to "Sodom."

It doesn't need to, but the term originated in Victorian times and was most often used for men with, err, no interest in ladies. And yes, Wilde was very fond of this term and popularised its already kind of established meaning.

Lady Killer and Black Widow don't necessarily mean your character is interested in the people who those dialouge options are available for, it just means your character is good at manipulating a certain six by flirting. These "gay" versions here are probably the same. Choosing these perks is about using people to get what you want and are not always about your character's attractions.

Obsidian has most likely still left things like your character's sixual preference up to role-playing.

Cherchez la femme is french. Translated directly it means "seek the woman", in french its actual meaning is probably slightly different but it kind of gives you the gist of it.
