Chests in dungeons = deathtraps

Post » Tue Mar 04, 2014 3:01 pm

What do you think about the chests in the dungeons? To me they were causing just trouble. I've seen a lot of party members heading for the chests while the tank attacked the next mob, leading to many unpleasant situations.

The first come first serve philosophy will not play out very well, even if there is mostly trash inside them.

Other times the party had to wait for somebody who was picking the lock.

Doesn't make sense that Zenimax gives everybody his own loot drops but then adds those chests and bags into the dungeons :-/

I gotta say that chests in dungeons is treading on dangerous waters. This can cause many issues and lots of problems with the inevitable ninja that will abuse this. I know it's easy to say "boot them" but that causes a whole other issue about finding a replacement and waiting around to complete the dungeon. I just think that it's taking a risk as a whole and that they should be taken out altogether or at the very least everyone gets a change to roll (in some way) on the gear that drops. I was lucky enough to have someone in a dungeon open the chest and then link what was in it for us to take if we needed, but that (I imagine) will not be the norm.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I will have to see it to believe it that everyone will be nice enough to distribute what is in the chests after they are opened.

It would be nice to see the chest be randomed when in group. Or at least give the person who looted a chance to divvy the loot out to anyone who could use it.

Well why would anyone in a dungeon be in a hurry to get it done? Banished Cells is not that long really like 20 mins if ppl don't die to bosses. Even then bosses go down like in a min or 2. Plenty of time to stop and pick chests.

Yeah these really need to be instanced or have a roll associated with them when looted.

A simple solution would be to put the chests only at the end of the dungeon. Those in a hurry can leave, those not can wait for it to be picked and loot put up for roll, assuming a roll had been agreed upon beforehand.

Yeah I agree with what everyone else is saying. Make chests in dungeons work on the same system as loot drops. Period. This just makes good sense. There is no reward to screwing your team and hording loot regardless of where it comes from.

I forgot to try this beta but what happens when you kick a player from a group inside of a dungeon?

Do they get ported out of the dungeon? Or?

just remove chests from dungeons. there is no need for them to be there in the first place. chests are a great thing to be scattered around the world, but will just cause arguments in the dungeons.

If you want them to be instanced instead then they have to nerf the loot in them, at this stage the rewards in chests are too good to give everyone their own little chest to open

I think that the chests with the first come first served mechanic is extremely frustrating and pointless. I noticed the gathering nodes are like this too. Other games such as WoW have this, and all it does is encourage camping and selfish play, not teamwork. It's so annoying to go round to find all the nodes are taken, or to have someone doing it right in front of you. And especially the chests, there'll be like freacking queues to try the chests and people just camping the chests. I don't see why they don't just use phasing to phase the nodes and chests both to the player, other games such as GW2 have done this, and it completely eliminates the frustration.

if they phased the resource nodes in the world they would have to remove the amount of nodes there are to prevent flooding. as for chests, if someone wants to stand around and camp a spot for chests let them, you will get better gear and rewards from continuing with your quest and killing monsters along the way.

they have to limit the amount of quality items being found in the game or it will be a problem, I don't think fighting over things while you are grouped in a dungeon is good, so they should just remove the chests from the dungeons but leave them scattered about the world for you to find when you are by yourself

When in a group locked chests should simply have a roll for loot mechanic.

I agree. I think that chests should remain in dungeons, but the loot should be rolled on or instanced.

Alto i like the chest mechanic, i do think it wil cause more trouble then its worth.

But they wil become secondary very fast, and only new players and some new starting alts wil want the chest badly. The rest has seen so many chests they couldnt be bothered to even look at them.

because people dont want to risk someone else getting the loot so they rush the chest

The only crappy part about chests in instanced dungeons is they're all over the place, and you have to wait on some jerk to pick the damn things.

Rather they just not be in instanced dungeons and stay in the world/public dungeons only. Or have one after each boss or something since a lot of the time bosses are stingy with their loot (lol @ nothing but soul gems and white items dropping sometimes).

This, an simple need or greed function like in wow would solve most, yes if some asshat always need everybody else needs on the later ones.

WOW had plenty of balancing features, I remember one episode well, I was shaman and had signed up for dps or heal in random dungeon while questing as dps.

Pops in halfway trough an dungeon as healer, Says: hi wait: need to change to healer setup, however the group was busy getting wiped.

Yes accidents happens, however because they was so mad I assumed they had kicked the previous healer for no good reason and was on an kick cooldown so I could enjoy myself.

Loot any trash mob, enjoy the scenery and comment on it then somebody did the gogogo.

Yes the downside was that you needed some intelligence to understand how the system worked, kicking somebody for doing 20% less dps or being gnome and you had some chance of getting something real bad as replacement.

i like them idea of having them after bosses if its instanced for all. i hate the problems that come with resource/chest rushing in groups
