Children in Morrowind

Post » Sun Jan 10, 2010 10:24 pm

For those of you who dont know, I just found out that there ARE children in Morrowind. Most of you will say that it is obvious, to all of you lore buffs, but I'm not one, so I felt like I have made a great discovery...

-I guess I should say this as well, before people start asking "Where?!" and I say "In Vvardenfell, Morrowind"

They are evidently not in the in-game mechanics, but if you need proof, just go to Seyda Neen, and go into Arrile's Tradehouse. Go upstair, and there will be a note in front of the Redguard woman. It is on the counter. Scroll down where it says 3rd item...

It notes that there are children, about them not being able to buy or sell without a parental guardian with them.

And in the 4th item, it says Doe, but isn't it supposed to say "Does" ?? Seems like they made the typo at least twice, if you scroll down more...

Of course it's game mechanics. Killing a child isn't exactly ESRB-friendly. There is evidence in Oblivion, overhauls and skeleton. Does it really matter? Not really.

Edit COngratulations on the find though. I have not read that document, so atleast there is more evidence. :)

Evidence? For what? That there are actually children in Morrowind?

Yeah...so? No one has any doubt there are actually children in Tamriel. Not a great discovery, there are tons of other documents that reference children. Searching 'child' at TIL turns up 146 items, 'children' 162.

And women! Yes, women, find some women in Gothic who aren't chained up against a wall and forced into slave labor. Quick, for the propagation of the human races, you must!

Gothic is German. It's historical for women and chains to go together. In Germany, when they think Battle of the Bulge they think of the gender war over who should be entitled to have a bigger one. Men won. Women became men, as most were already mannish, and those that didn't got locked up in chains in the basemant for regular games involving bodily fluids that should not be in any game.

True story.

Taking game mechanics for lore is a bad idea. You don't want to be the kid who goes around yelling that the people of Tamriel don't go to the bathroom (maybe they use bushes?), because there are no toilets in the game. :P I believe there is an Oblivion mod for that, though...

Another reference: Daren Adryn said "So blow, like smoke, or I'll spill you like a baby's cup."

Well to be fair the entire game -did- take place in a giant prison colony surrounded by a magic barrier. :P

Of course there are children in the Elder Scrolls, we don't need any confirmation, just logic tells us that is the case. People don't just burst out of the ground fully grown in real life, they are born as children and slowly grow into advlts, and since people in the Elder Scrolls are more or less the same as real people in anatomy (at least the humans, for non-human races it obviously doesn't count.), and there even are both male and female ones, there would be no need for this difference if people did not also reproduce in much the same way, so naturally, children exist. Bethesda just did not do them in game, but just because the game doesn't show something doesn't mean it doesn't exist in the lore, people never use those forks and knives you see laying around in the game but that doesn't mean they're just for show. You don't need to visit the bathroom on a regular basis but that doesn't mean that all life forms in the game have perfectly efficient digestive systems, just because Cyrodiil doesn't have more than two thousand people doesn't mean it's really like that in the lore, just because you can't write your own books and never see NPCs doing so doesn't mean books actually grow naturally on trees, money doesn't grow on trees either, even though the only NPCs you can ever see actually gaining or losing money are merchants, quest NPCs and beggars.

You really didn't need to write all that. It's a pretty stupid question, and one that doesn't deserve well written answers with thought.

Umm, am I the only one who think if this should be anywhere then maybe in the Morrowind general section? Claiming it is lore is absurd.
