Has it at all been confirmed that the baby must be named shaun? In the gameplay, the fenale says how are my two favorite boys, but we havnt seen any female gameplay. Could it be a girl with female gameplay? I just really would rather name my own kid in the game than have it be a boy named shaun. No offense to the name, just think itd be cool to really customize your family

From what I've heard, it'll always be a boy named Shaun. We heard Nora say, "I've got Shaun!" as she ran out of the house for the Vaults.

Unless they cut out a naming screen, demo suggests Shaun is the default name

I think his name is Shaun for a reason. The reason being you'll run into him later. As in, he's alive and left the vault several years before you did. So you are the same age as your son. And your son is going to be the main "villain". Just speculation though.

I think the baby name is Shaun by default and the different names might be for the player (like Mr.Howard in the E3 demo). Correct me if im wrong.

No, there is 1000 player character names recorded. So if you choose one for your character, that is part of said recorded names, Codsworth will say your characters name.

Chekov's Gun would indicate we will see the baby in some meaningful fashion in the 'third act'. It would be tough to accommodate gender and names into that dialogue.

He leaves the vault similar to the way the PC does. Just 30 or so years prior as a baby. Maybe someone finds him in cryogenic stasis as a baby or something.

Well, we can assume that every action that occurred with the male protagonist will be reversed if you play the female protagonist. Your husband will be sitting on the couch when you answer the door, your husband will tell you to check on the baby and your husband will be the one carrying the baby when you run for the vault. It could be likely that the baby's six will change depending on which gender you choose to play and the husband will say "how are my two favorite gals?" Of course if names are set it's probably pretty likely that the girl will be named Shawna.

Although I am not saying it's a bad idea, I just HOPE Bethesda didn't go with anything similar. Like I said not a bad idea just.... very predictable.

I like to think Bethesda is far more creative than that.

A thought that you and many of us had. Really though I perfer a clean slate. With no ties to the past. The wife or son being alive is such an obvious path to follow. I like to think that the pre-war section was just a virtual life Vault-Tec created for him. Which his wife and son never existing. Then again though, that is such an obvious path as well.
