CHIM

Post » Sun Sep 05, 2010 7:50 am

i dont think its the "i love you i want to marry you" kind of love. its more like your love for your country or your fellow man or your child. kind of going out on a limb, but it may be that realizing the existence of God and your place in it that keeps you from [poof]. God Is Love.

It was a joke. I've made earlier quips about how he needed to just Sum. Nothing more, really.

Oh, wait, are you trying to say 'a fantasy-world "power-of-your-imagination" reference'? In that case, I get it.

It's the difference between being a static representation of an ideal, like mercy or love or time, and being able to rewrite the universe or create new worlds ex-nihilio from one's imagination. It's about "playing with the world without even touching it", as I think MK put it.

CHIM necessarily encompasses both order and disorder, as a way of moving beyond a dichotomy that structures the entire universe. Now I'm going to bed. I nominate Proweler to explain further in my stead. I have 40 pages of Tales of a Dying Earth left and I want to finish it tonight.

Finished. It was a great bit of fun.

Thanks to my filthy assistant proweler, for keeping up his stamina on a difficult topic. I can't say I would have kept it up that long myself. Special thanks to Paw-Prints and Lady Nerevar and other members of the tribe for doing the same.

I didn't make that up.

The ruling king is armored head to toe in brilliant flame. He is redeemed by each act he undertakes. His death is only a diagram back to the waking world. He sleeps the second way. The Sharmat is his double, and therefore you wonder if you rule nothing.

Would you care to enlighten me on the subject, then?

This all goes back to Nalion's post as well.

Who is opposed to the Sharmat in Morrowind? This person is the ruling king.

Now what happens to this person if they "die"?

And what is this all a reference to?

This is where I fail to see how things could work. If you are a being with no limits, then how could you limit your actions to actually do something that you want?

Control basically means limiting yourself.

Good luck making Godhead obey that pushy little sophist JULIANOS and his arbitrary rules.

Well said by Nazz. I shouldn't try spelling this out, but the ruling king is the player, who can exit the game and load a saved game. Vivec is among those who have figured out that everyone's a character in the gods' own computer game, though sentient at the same time. This is putting it clumsily.

It was Allerleirauh or someone who once compared it to "The Matrix", the way the software were individuals at the same time.

this thread has a good bit of information as opposed to other threads about CHIM when most people just say "I know what CHIM is but I won't tell you."

From what I've seen, most of them do what has been done in this thread, just to a smaller degree.

And sometimes, people won't really get what you're telling them regardless. plus, it's more fun to find out on your own.

But if we have no way as way, and have no limitation as limitation, and Lorkhan took the hypotenuse of two bull netch tentacles and divided by pi, and then we add in the dimension of Oblivion times the sum of zero, as the Dwemer perceived it, then we can (Pass the Dutchie on the left hand side) clearly see, the universe as a atom in the finger of some larger being. And therefore we can transcend the [censored] and truly be free in our own prisons.

I thinks I may have it now.

(Sorry guys, but sometimes these threads need a little levity.)

Big news for me here :P :

As I said and consitantly kept with somewhere in the middle of all these pages, I think that if one has no limits, then everything happens at once, everywhere, independant of time. Some thought I was wrong (at least as far as I percieved it). Now, look what I found while reading Vivec's dialogue in Morrowind:
That is the god place. The place out of time, where everything is always happening, all at once.

But since Vivec confirms that true freedom, being without limits, exists in the "god place" (outside of the mortal world), and it doesn't mean the destruction of everything at once, as well as the creation of all at one, then the mortal world must be shielded from this stasis. What shields it? Lorkhan?

Sounds like it's talking about Aetherius. Perhaps you should bring up the whole quote?

Sounds like it's talking about Aetherius. Perhaps you should bring up the whole quote?

"It's nice never being dead, too. When I die in the world of time, then I'm completely asleep. I'm very much aware that all I have to do is choose to wake. And I'm alive again. Many times I have very deliberately tried to wait patiently, a very long, long time before choosing to wake up. And no matter how long it feels like I wait, it always appears, when I wake up, that no time has passed at all. That is the god place. The place out of time, where everything is always happening, all at once."

- Vivec

But even if that IS aetherius, then the mortal world is shielded from aetherius by restriction. Where does the restriction come from, if not from Lorkhan?

So if Lorkhan "disappeared", everyone would achieve CHIM?

achieving CHIM is a voluntary process, you have to realize and accept a lot of things before you get it. if Lorkhan disappeared the world would disappear along with all its people. permanent death, probably.
