I agree, winning a nuclear war is impossible.

There's a random encounter that could be seen as answering the question about whether or not China survived the war. This isn't the spoilers section of this forum so I can't say what it is. It does not involve meeting any chinese ghouls or soldiers, but it does involve something that becomes evident out of nowhere via your pip boy.

Greetings to the oppressed masses of the FO3 forum from the peace-loving peoples of China! Why do you send your boys to die for your capitalist masters? Your boys are dying on the Alaskan Summer Front and all for nothing! Bring them home, before you get banned! Do you think the mods will keep you safe if the ban bombs fall? The gang of Wall Street fat cats and their Washington war-monger puppets have plunged the world into buying the game to line their own *crackle*
All peace-loving peoples must join together to stop the Yasgur War of Aggression being waged by the Wall Street gang. Why do you continue to send your boys to die for their capitalist masters? Do you think your moderators will keep you safe if the ban bombs fall? You will never post again while your Bethesda gang and their hangers on (Attrebus) will live like Rohugh!! *crackle*

Regarding moving to Hawaii (Hawaii would be nuked big time) there are so many secret and not so secret bases on hawaii. I think if the fallout didn't kill everyone (like the movie and book On the Beach) Most likely you would see South America take over as a world power. Brazil foremost.

I think there was something about an invasion somewhere laying about. Can't remember if it was on a terminal that I read it, or, if someone was talking about it, or what. After all, there are a LOT of chinese weapons about.

Chinese invaded Alaska. US anexed Canada. US power armored troops puched back the reds on alaska, and also opened a front on china mainland. When china was almost all destroyed, the nuke war begun.

if no one wants to nuke us... Anyway it would descent also into a serious confusions, considering the nuclear winter and the aftermatch famine.

Makes me wonder what a Fallout game based in China would be like. Big, claustrophobic cities destroyed and only part intact

I seem to remember this, I think a lot of this information came from Fallout 2, where you get the Robobrain (its been a while!!).

Ou tof interest, in Fallout lore what happened to Russia/Soviet Union? Was Russia taken over by China?

It's also useful to remember that in the 1950's, many thought that nuke weapons, while immenently destructive, were survivable --- and even useful:

The whole "Duck-and-Cover" civilian propaganda campaign --- http://www.archive.org/details/a-bomb_blast_effects --- tactical nuclear weapons like the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davy_Crockett_(nuclear_device) (where the blast radius was bigger than the effective firing range!). Up until the 1980's (maybe even later) the US had a first strike contingency plan to fire a nuclear "warning shot" over Europe should the Sovs ever make headway in an overland invasion.

So, yah, everybody agreed a massive nuclear exchange was prolly a bad thing --- but that didn't keep them from pretending one or two going off wouldn't necessarily have been a bad thing...

Well, I think one thing that people are forgetting is that while the Fallout universe might have had popular culture stuck in the 1950's, the technology certainly wasn't. It diverged from ours and the great war happened in 2077 to boot. We can't know how advanced any of the countries were besides the United States and China. And the only solid thing that we know about the Chinese technology was that it was advanced, but not advanced enough for power armor.

The only place that I could think off hand that would have survived pretty much unscathed during the Great War (assuming that it's somewhat like it is today) is New Zealand. I can honestly not think of a single reason somebody would nuke it... Well, except out of spite.

It's evil based on the perception of the United States in the Fallout universe.
Or at least that's what propaganda tells you.

Considering that the US has the greatest nuclear stockpiles in the world, both in real life and the Fallout universe, China is probably even worse off than the US - it's possible that there's barely anything alive in there, except maybe some ghouls.

And as for the rest of the world that didn't get nuked, they can't be much better off, either. After all, they still went through years of nuclear winter that would have left to mass starvation and destruction of the infrastructure. Also, the radiation doesn't limit itself to a specific area; with wind and water it would spread itself all over the world after such massive emissions, not as powerful as in the areas that were hit directly, but still bad enough to cause serious problems. No nation could survive under such conditions.

:biglaugh:

Yeah, though it would probably have been an entertaining watch!

Though I think if the New Zealand in the Fallout universe was anywhere near to our own, it is possibly the best place to live in the year 2277. Ample farming land, abundance of natural resources, lack of an overwhelming population... Heck, as long as they weren't hit in the Great War, then they could have retained all of their sheep loving culture throughout the years =P They might be one of the most technologically advanced civilizations of the time :tops:
