I'm a rifleman. Ratslayer, modded Hunting Rifle, suppressed Sniper Rifle, All American, This Machine. All favorites. Sniper tactics mostly, but in close quarters, like indoors, the All American or This Machine are my go-to weapons. Heaviest armor I will wear is regular combat armor. Usually with a bandanna, or a regular combat helmet. My high level loadout is Sniper Rifle, Ratslayer, and either All American or This Machine. I love Ratslayer.

I play other character types, but this one is still my favorite.

I've been playing around with guns quite a bit lately, especially ones I haven't used much until now. I've tried to find the love with the .22 pistol, but just can't get there. The .22 SMG w/ HP just eats up 0DT NPCs, but even better, a fully modded 9mm SMG w/ HP. I've never killed butterflies quicker. It's spread is so bad that it's like a shotgun on speed and I usually crit the wings pretty quick, leaving them easy prey on the ground. Also spent some time with the AMR, and continue to come away incredibly underwhelmed. I've shot .50BMG IRL and this thing is a wilting daisy compared to a real one. I did have to take out all the deathclaws at the gypsum yard with a BB gun again, but this time I did it with a regular one and no Cowboy Perk. God, that's fun. :celebration:

I'm addicted to Cowboy + Hand Loader perk combo, so its Cowboy Repeater, then Trail Carbine, then Brush Gun as the game progresses.

suppressed sniper rifle for distant targets
Automatic Rifle for close to medium targets (without Dead Money a fully modded Hunting Shotgun instead)
Lucky or the Police Pistol for close combat...potting Freeside Thugs, Geckos, feral ghouls, ect.

I don't like using the Cowboy Repeater or Brush Gun because I have a hard time using the aperture sights as modeled. Maybe I'm too far from the set or something but I just cannot see anything with them....a problem I don't have using a real rifle with aperture sights. Hopefully they'll put out a scoped .45-70 in the DLCs.

Rifles and not the assault kind. I prefer well placed shots over spraying the area with bullets.

I prefer to spray and pray.

LMG is my weapon of choice.

Right now I'm rockin' a hunting rifle (waiting to be high level enough for Gun Runners to have a scope in stock), a Caravan shotgun, and a 357 mag pistol. This works for me. It bothers me to take more than two long-weapons and more than three pistols anywhere unless ima sell them, so I try to stick with a good, multi-situational loadout. Also, I'm playing without Xbox live, so no patches for me :( explosives svck (seriously? That stick of dynamite did no damage whatsoever, but my nine-mil dropped him? [censored] this), and I didn't even bother with energy weapons.

Question: Seeing as how I'm patchless (although, I've encountered very few bugs. Almost less than what I found in FO3), is there any point in making an energy-weapons build? They look so badass in this game, and the variety is awesome (I had to change my pants walking into Silver Rush), but I've heard that they svck without the patch. I really want to use them, but I'm afraid of it being a massive, boring waste of time.

I cant seem to get shotguns to work well. I usually die to enemies with lots of DT, even when i have the shotgun surgeon perk. Am i doing something wrong?

Also, Ranger Sequoia is awesome.

It could be that your GUNS are to low try putting more points into them.

I love the 9mm smg too gunny.
Take fast shot as a trait and rapid reload ( or console them in as a test, since you're on pc ), the shear ROF when fully modded is incredible.
It's the most rapid spray I've seen since....
Spoiler
I knocked off the garden pipe from the tap

I've yet to try the BB gun for more than a few Lulz kills, something I really should try.

PEW PEW ZAP!
Energy weapons are my preferred weapon style. There's a lot of cool guns, but I just like my lasers. They do need some more fanciful critical death animations.

You can do it. But without the patch they are a lot less powerful.
You'd have to focus your build on critical hits (high Luck, crit modifying perks, etc) and will have a though time at the start of the game (less ammo, not that many weapons and laser pistol is outperformed by the 9mm pistol).

My go to weapon, Scoped Hunting rifle. Followed next by the assault carbine (works well indoors), then I'll use "That Gun" in situations where I need something that hits hard in very tight spots. And on occasion I use Vance's 9mm SMG when I need to put down multiple enemies right quick.

I really like using my hands in NV...
Next character.. the Masseuse..
Once he gets his mits on you, you'll wish you were oiled... just don't ask for the extras.

Yeah, Lucky is pretty good. I don't usually bother with pistols, but I've been carrying Lucky since I found it, and I'm impressed with how easily I one-shot enemies with it.

I agree that the aperture sights are pretty awkward on some of the guns. They block so much of the view that I keep having to go in and out of aiming mode to get a bead on my target, and then to see if I actually hit him.

I'll give it a try. Took rapid reload to test it on the Caravan Shotgun, like whoever (I can't remember which forum poster) suggested, but I still think it's eclipsed by the lever-action. Didn't do any numbers tests, just a gut reaction. Haven't used fast shot yet, but I'll take it for a test drive today. I suspect it is great for SMG/Shotgun builds, since you really want less accuracy sometimes with those weapons.

The BB Gun challange, well it's not much of a challange as the deathclaws have no chance at all, is to take a BB Gun, go up the back side of the hill behind Gypsum Train Yard and climb down onto the rim of the big bucket. Shoot away. You can only do damage to any of them with a critical hit, but it's hilarious to watch them run in circles while you plink away at them with a fricken spring loaded chicken shooter. Use a coupla steadies if you're having trouble hitting them, as you'll have a 95% chance to hit their head in vats for more crits. I die laughing every time I do this. :twirl:

:lmao: I'll have to try that out cheers :foodndrink: .

As for that poster ( looks guilty ) it was me.
I think many presumed I was talking about it being the best shotgun in total.
All I can say is if you get it at a low level 1 - 14 and try it out with rapid reload, dex 8+ and shotgun surgeon with slugs.
It makes all the harder areas ( way before a lever is available ), like north of Goodsprings, south of Primm full of giant rads very easy.
You start to see how good it is early on, later on with better choices you'll neglect it as better versions come up.
Console one in and try it out early on.
Plus its also a strength 3 gun, not bad considering that.

Actually I won't need to console one in. I found one real early, one that I had missed on previous PTs. Now I just have to remember to remember where that is. I think it may have been

in that safe in the house in Goodspring I usually don't have enough lockpick to open. There's usually one on the prospector in the highway patrol station, too

Actually Riot would be want make mid-late game very easy. You can get one from a Omerater guard if you have to, but Gun Runners should have it when you are Lv14.

As for caravan being amazing early game weapon, like I said, 5.56mm/.223 would get the job done 100m away.

That doesn't sound much worse than an energy weapons character early in FO3, where it svcked really bad until you nabbed some plasma weapons.

I'll try it, because they really do look awesome in this game.

All-American,Automatic Rifle aka a B.A.R, That Gun and a fully modded Hunting Rifle. For some heavy firepower though I prefer either Mercy or the YCS/186. :gun:

Suppressed sniper with carbon stock.

fully modded 10mm smg for Cazadors =[

Pushy or Love and Hate or Machete Gladius for up close and personal. Sometimes a modded Hunting Shotgun.

Every other gun and EW in the game for a laugh before I sell it.

Hey, hey guys.

What's better than an Anti-Material Rifle?

An Anti-Material Rifle with suppressor, extended magazine, and a long range scope. Cleaned out the Quarry Junction in 15 minutes with one.

Gotta love mods.

hmmm

Hunting shotgun with slugs or coin rounds, mostly close range.

The All American with regular rounds or armor piercing. Use it for both range or close up.

After finishing dead money. use holorifle fully modded. kills bugs good.

Long range : Gobi Scout rifle, marksman carbine

Medium Range : Silenced 12.7 smg, Modded assault rifle, missile launcher(also modded)

Up close : silenced 10mm pistol, Ranger Sequoia, maria

Weapon choice depends on enemies and stealth

It's not too bad, (service rifle) I have sunny smiles companion mod, and along with WMX she has a fully modded rifle and it works pretty good. (forged receiver, springs, and mag size) Give her 1000 rounds of surplus ammo and she kicks but on most common enemies.
