Choosing armor for Super-sledge wielding character

Post » Sun Jun 30, 2013 2:07 am

I recently started a character who is going to use melee weapons as his main weapon, and eventually settle with Oh' Baby, the unique super sledge. In the past I have played an unarmed character like this that wore power armor, but I also used a mod that provided power armor mod kits, and I used one to make me faster. After a while I decided the mod made the game less fun.

I have a feeling that heavy armors are out of the question due to their slow speed, so now I am debating between going for light or medium armor.

This character has taken the heavy handed perk as super sledge crit damage is only half it's normal damage and it has a X1 crit chance multiplier.

As such this character WILL NOT be paying any mind to critical hits as they are pathetically weak for this setup. This means that armor with crit chance boosts and crit focused perks are irrelevant.

Also, this character does not sneak around so any bonuses for sneaking are irrelevant.

I am hoping I can get some opinions from other who have done a melee playthrough similar to this that can tell me if the slower speed from wearing medium armor is worth the added DT, or if I would be better off wearing light armor to close on the enemy faster, and be able to use the travel light perk for even more speed.

Oh, and I have all the DLC.

in the wastland until the legion hit teams come after me, i wear light armor with the light touch perk. around DT of 20 seems to be enough armor for most of the wasteland.

i have been wearing The T-51b power armor in OWB and LR. i often use the katana against nightstalkers and tunnelers with good results. all i can say, try different things and see how it works for you.

A Super Sledge is probably the least effective weapon for Melee. Takes too long to recharge. DPS is what you want. Fast crippling strikes, then go in for the kill. Some weapon perk combos give you an insane advantage in VATS and or Real Time. You know, for those times when your swarmed with Ghouls and you just don't want to reload.

get the super slam and piercing perks. that will increase the effectiveness of melee and unarmed weapons.

it seems with The T-51b power armor, the PC won't or can't be knocked down. good thing against nightstalkers of OWB.
