Choosing a class

Post » Wed Mar 26, 2014 4:38 pm

SORRY IF THERE HAS BEEN A THOUSAND OF THESE THREADS - first thread

I'm not sure exactly what I am going to be playing, because I don't quite understand how it all works. I played Beta, and I made it to level 8 as a high elf sorcerer, which was cool. I spec'd into pure damage and magika, with the mage's guild.

My biggest's question is, if I pick a mage and say spec into heavy armour and say dual weild, am I going to be as effective as a mage who just went pure damage. I understand that the choice is mine, and I have utter freedom with classes spec and choice, but are they all going to be as effective as one another?

Ex: Dragonknight, melee dps vs Sorcerer melee dps

How does healing work? All classes can heal, but whats the point of having one that is just so much better?

***ALSO*** Make sure to tell me what Class you're rolling and how you wish to play it.

You can make a Melee sorcerer just fine, because of critical surge. It gives you increased Melee damage to go with your high spell damage.

Sorcerers aren't really "better" at healing, just more efficient. Nightblades can also do a good job as well.

Your use of the word "effective" is interesting, because the definition is so broad. If you make a heavy-armor melee sorc, of course a staff-and-spells sorc will out-pew-pew you... but you will out last him when attacked with melee. It's all about what you're trying to get out of the character... that's the only thing that matters when considering "effectiveness."

Me, I'm planning a basic bread-and-butter dual-wielding Nightblade. I always play stealth classes first in these types of games, because it's my favorite playstyle overall.

Then, of course, I'll be rolling one of each of the other three. :)

Light armor for a physical damage dealing nightblade is not a really good idea. You need 5 medium armor pieces to get the crit bonuses and 2 light armor for the magicka bonuses.

Bow/bow is not a really good idea. You need to be able to fight back a melee who just got the jump on you, usually other nbs. You can cc an attacker but he will break out of it and be immune to cc for a shortwhile and you don't wanna shoot arrows while he bashes you with a 2hander.

Pure magicka build is not a really good idea. As a bowblade you need lots of stamina, not to mention attacks that use stamina/magicka are increased in damage the more points you put in stamina/magicka and as a bowblade your go-to weapon, the bow, is stamina based.

In short, you're doing it wrong. But there will be plenty of people doing it wrong, so it doesn't really matter overall, just don't yell Nerf! when some people who know what they're doing are going 1v3. :D

you misunderstand me, i'm the one doing the jump, i'm putting my trust on huge openers and then proceed to invis/backstab combo and i have manapool enough to spam it as much as i want. i'm only using poison arrow from bow skill line so stamina is more than enough for it.

Stamina also affects the damage you do with weapons, it's not just a resource pool so if you don't wear any stam gear it won't do much damage, probably won't notice it much at low levels but at high levels i'd imagine it would be pretty noticable.

Also i'm going Sorc or DK. Was dead set on Sorc at first since they're so versitile with good cc, buffs, summons and some really sweet passives. But last beta i tried a DK as a caster and DW and loved it, they have some really great utility and buffs aswell.

I don't plan to be efficient, I plan to make a character :)

I'm planning an Altmer Templar based off a D&D Paladin of mine who died due to misadventure.

I have no idea, why are you using a stam skill and a stam weapon with absolutely no points or gear in stam when you could fill that spot with something more useful or something that won't tickle, like another class skill, that uses magicka.

Gave me the impression you had no idea that the stats acually increased damage and hought they were only resource pools and could use some advice, apparently not, apparenlt you'd rather be snide.
