Choosing a graphics card for Crysis 2 on PC

Post » Tue Jun 30, 2009 12:03 am

I'm just looking for a powerful GPU that can run Crysis 2 on max, with a resolution of 1920x1080 or 1080p. My card is purely weak as I can only run Crysis 1 in 800x600, which is really sad. My power supply is only 550watt which should be able to handle a enthusiast card.
Any suggestions?

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 looks like the perfect choice for you then. :)

Check your power supply model to make sure that it can provide this sustained!

"A minimum 550W or greater system power supply (with a minimum 12V current rating of 38A)"

Hey I got a question too.
How can it be that the GTX 570 costs 350 bucks and the HD5870 300?
I thought the GTX 570 is much more powerfull or am I wrong and I can max out Crysis 2 with it?

Go to http://extreme.outervision.com/index.jsp and see for yourself what kind of configuration that PSU would be able to handle.

PS: GTX 570

The GTX 570 is a generation later in video card technology and is more powerful, thats why. ;)

the GTX 570 and the Radeon HD 6970 have the same performance, I just picked the 570 since it is slightly cheaper. :P

And Crysis 2 is going to be a "The Way it's Meant to be Played" game so expect better otimization or some fancy exclusive effects for Nvidia cards.

Thanks for the suggestion for the GTX 570, but its a little too expensive for me. Around $100-$200 would be great. I live in Canada by the way so any products in the USA, I might not be able to purchase.

You want a GPU that can run crysis 2 on max at 1080p, I highly doubt a $200 graphics card will be up to the task.

A GTX460 1GB should be enough but until the actual game arrives we can't be sure. The GTX560 should be out before the game so that might be an option, check reviews when it arrives. Early reports I've heard are that it should be 20% faster than the 460.

I run Crysis on my GTX460 and it averages around 30fps with high/very high settings at 1080p. I still get slowdowns but Crysis 2 is supposed to run better than Crysis.

Since Crysis 2 is not set in a jungle but in New York City, it should be able to run smoothly with a $200 GPU. Not too many trees to process so framerate should be good especially since they have the revamped Cryengine 3.

@Jac, At 30fps is really good. Once Crysis 2 comes out you should be able to run in about 60fps or higher since there's no more trees but just buildings and particles.

Still, I'd like a $200. Maybe up to $250 but not past $300. I heard EVGA makes really good cards that don't demand much power but don't know for sure. If anyone has an EVGA Card can you give me some info on it?

I think the GTX 560 is going to be priced at $280 so that might be what you're looking for.

Also do you have a good CPU?

At your price range, the GTX 460 or the HD 6870 should fit in very nicely. :)

The GTX 560 sounds pretty good especially at that price. Seems like a good deal. Also my processor is an Intel Quad Core 2.33ghz Q8200. Is my processor good enough? I heard that if your GPU is stronger than your processor by a lot, it could have an impact on GPU performance.

You will need to overclock your processor a rather hefty bit or the video card is going to be bottlenecked... probably an OC to 3.0GHz or more from that low 2.4

I doubt you will have to do anything to your processor - any quad 'should' be fine although you will find people all over the net claiming you're gonna get bottlenecked. The truth is most games nowadays are highly GPU reliant but of course until the game is released I can't make that claim for Crysis 2.
