Chop Slash Thrust!

A system existent in Morrowind.Later,Dark Messiah used something similiar which worked really well I think.Basically, your movement as you press the attack button determines how you swing your weapon.I think it makes the combat less repetitive (though not enough alone) and it makes you feel more like your are the one fighting.
I personally would like something similiar, what do you say?

Like in Mount & Blade? I never really got a grasp on that.

Yeah. That is confirmed for Skyrim, I think.

Source? If so, that's excellent news.

I would prefer a system that takes into account what part of the enemy you're aiming at to determine what attack you use. Low swing at the legs, stab at the midriff, slashes at the sides and chops at the head and neck.

That would work for swords. The other weapons would work a similar way but have different animations. As long as the hit boxes were fairly large I think it would be far more intuitive than "I'm walking left so obviously I'm going to do a thrust".

Nevermind. I was wrong. Saw that on a thread about what the devs said about Oblivion's combat system before it came out and thought it was about Skyrim. Just remembered. I think that's where I heard it. I feel stupid now.

Brothers, what if they added throwable in-game items? For example, spears, swords, axes, shields, potions... Player would be able to throw them at the enemy or the environment at any given time, there would be, for example, a 50% ( for some weapons ) , that would determind if they would hit with the sharp edge or the blunt edge. Blunt strikes would be able to knock out or just deal a little damage to the enemy. NPC's would be able to pick up players thrown items and run away with them or use them against the player...

Meh... I'd rather kick chairs and throw beer mugs at people like Peter Molyneux promised for Fable 2.

Of course I'm not expecting that for Skyrim. I still think that it would be cool though.

Making potions with poison or acid and then throwing them would be a nice alternative for non-magic users...

Sure, but we already have bows, melee weapons and poisons to achieve most of those effects. With enchanting making a return as a skill we'll even be able to have powerful enchantments without specialising in magic (not counting Oblivion's enchanting system as that was horribly unbalanced).

It would be nice you're right, but they've just given us dual wielding. I'll get by for another few games before they toss us a combat versatility bone.

I was thinking in dipping weapons, arrows in stuff like poison, which will give them the effect for some time... But I get what you're saying.

Really, it sells immersive-ness but in the end it is stupid trying to avoid thrusting with an axe.

btw, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic has THE BEST MELEE ever in a first person rpg (and you could see your body). Skyrim could just rip it off and i'd be happy as fvck. In fact i'm playing it right now and it is unvelievable and heavily inspired by Thief, another otherworldly game. Stealth should be copy paste from Thief too.

That would be... economical... like if you were poor hunter assassin with only a longbow.

Also, what if armor would, actually, deflect (with some cool effects in-game) somewhat strikes by poor and small weapons and not thrust strikes that often... Would make the combat more interesting and time consuming, making player choose between tactics, also, adding body language to the whole combat aspect...

On the other hand, smacking your enemy in the face with the stick of an axe thrust would be the best finishing move,me thinks =D

It's really intuitive and simple once you get the hang of it, but it relies on mouse gestures, so I can't see it working with a controller. But I'd like the M&B Warband system whereby you can chop with an axe/thrust with a spear, hit a key and it converts to a throwable weapon.
