Choppy First Person View

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 8:38 am

I have to say very strange that it carries over to a controller....most interface issues are due to the game being a bad port. I am sorry but I have no other thoughts on what you could do that comes to mind. >.<

First person stutter, been having it since release day. I'm sure it's linked to the 64hz bug.

Like others it's only in 1st person, and only in certain locations. Nothing to do with framerate, I get a solid 60.

For me it's only in first person but in all location. It's independent from frame rate, it happens when I have like 30 fps and it happens when I have like 50-60. The difference is that when I have lower fps the shaking is slower but the jumps are bigger, when I have high fps the shaking is very fast but the jumps are smaller. (Jump is when the cursor moves from poistion A to position B.) So I don't think it's the 64Hz bug because it happens when I have fewer than 60 fps (before vsync kicks in). I also tried turning off vsync but it didn't help.

It only happens in first person view when I move the mouse diagonally. So when I only move the mouse left and right or up and down it doesn't happen. It really feels like that the game engine only processes vertical movement in one frame and horizontal in the next. I believe it has something to do with how the vertical and horizontal mouse speed was not in sync the first releases of the game. They supposed to fixed that but this choppiness still remains.

Btw. I tested only with AMD cards. On release date I had a 4870, but not long ago I replaced it with a 7950. Both has this issue. But I asked a friend who has nVidia and he said he also noticed this issue.

Actually it seems to be ok with a gamepad. I have a Logitech controller which uses DirectInput, but I have a DirectInput->XInput wrapper so it works like an XBox controller in the game.
So only mouse is affected.

Gotcha I would prefer to play the game with mouse and keyboard as well but it is just horrendous and I have a g700 logitech so I really don't think it matters what mouse its either terrible or really terrible. I bought my controller in anticipation of bad ports like this.

I tried it with my 360 pad and it was still there in the bad areas that I know of.

yeah my whole experience with skyrim has been trying to stop it from skipping and jumping, ive tried absolutly everything, theres been times when i was sure it was fixed but then it wasnt and its carried on like that, im so gutted as i cant play it like this, its not smooth whenever i move it skips, its hard to explain. it seems windowed mode helped but i see that disables vsync, when i selected window mode i saw vsync disabled, so this games vsync is broke if u ask me, also dont matter what settings or resolution for me, i should also say that i get constant 60fps, it drops to 58 lowest,

hey bethesda, in case any of you read this as i know you do lurk fixing things here and there, any chance you could take a look at vsync issues, i have no idea if its fixable but theres definatly a problem, many many users have this skipping jerky problem, alot use fps limiters and other methods, ive tried everything. ive now given up, im at a point now where ive scanned every forum

Ya few places but not the ones I would expect. For me it seems like whenever I enter a cell my performance is a little choppy for the first few seconds of movement or camera pan after that smooth as silk.

I'm having the same issue and just to reiterate, it is not related to FPS. I run the game at pretty much constant 60fps except in cities and certain areas outdoors. It also seems like this problem will be absent when I first start the game and then will start when I've done my first fast travel or load (going indoors, etc.). Even while I'm in an area where I have a seamless 60fps the mouse feels jittery or jumpy. Disabling mouse acceleration/smoothing does not have any effect, nor does unchecking the Xbox/Joystick option bullets in the in-game settings menu. Disabling vertical sync with the iPresentInterval does make this problem go away completely, but this causes issues of its own for me (combat and action delays) even with an FPS limiter running.

Try the steps at the top of this thread with the MSI Afterburner. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2566372

It didn't help for me unfortunately.

I think however that we are discussing two different kind of choppiness here. One is what the OP and me are experiencing which is mouse choppiness, which only occurs in first person view and is independent from the frame rate.

The other choppiness is the 64hz bug which is only noticeable when you have 60 or more fps. This one can probably be fixed with MSI Afterburner or the borderless window utility.

I think I get the second but I have a 60hz monitor so wouldn't that be impossible?

just checking in
i am still experiencing the problem in question and im wondering if anyone has found a solution?
if not, is there any way to report the problem directly to bethesda, or is this the only complaint outlet?

there must be something they can do about this
it has to be a problem in the first person camera code, because the third person camera works flawlessly

whats really frustrating is that some people are experiencing it and others are not.... i cant think of what is different on my end that could cause this to happen

well ill try and explain my problem as best i can, it must be frikkin hard for beth to fix it unless they can really recreate it, basicly ill be getting 60fps, ill walk forward and somtimes randomly it seems, it just skips like it jumps forward, if i remove vsyns that improves it, but then you get screen tearing and it stutters worse for me. i cant win. borderless window just disables vsync, unless it does more. not sure

alright well thats fine and dandy but this thread is about a completely different problem
many people are confusing your problem with mine, and several options have been offered to solve it

i have very specifically outlined the problem in the first post and i hope we will eventually achieve a solution
please- for the sake of those who are suffering from this- focus and respond only after you have read and re-read the first post

every thread about this problem changes topic to skipping or stuttering and then gets abandoned

this is a very accurate description of the symptoms

they go on to explain that it isnt as bad with a gamepad= i play pretty much exclusively with the 360 controller and i find it to be more noticeable due to the sensitivity
