Chris Avellone being a jerk and trolling us

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 7:32 am

Since he left Obsidian he's been silent on Twitter and silent in general. His first picture he posted? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CHo9FjYWgAIfjVt.jpg

His first tweet? https://twitter.com/chrisavellone

To my fellow cynics, what do you think?

Is Avellone being a jerk and trolling us?

Is Avellone just that naive and he's like "yay Fallout" and doesn't realize that instills tiny bits of hope when that's the first thing we hear post-depature?

Or maybe....I dare not say it. I don't believe it.

Or maybe he supports Bethesda's take on fallout and your beloved idol isn't as infallible as you thought? Not that supporting Bethesda is a failing, mind you. It's not good or bad.

Clearly he's planning a version of Fallout Shelter with more casual murder and insanity.

Perhaps it just means he's still a fan of Fallout even when it's Bethesda's fallout? ;-) Seems highly likely.

Such a legend. I wish this guy along with Fargo to continue work on Van Buren or what used to be Fallout 3. Brilliant developers simply because they created the idea behind Fallout....

Perhaps it means nothing at all.

Man the strawman personal attacks again....

Point was more that Avellone has done tons of assistance work with various titles lately, helping to write subplots or the like. Wasteland 2, FTL and another one, as I recall correctly. I cannot help but wonder if he's had any contact with Bethesda lately.

Avellone left Obsidian and "disappeared" off the radar. He only mentioned a new opening he couldn't turn down cause he's got "so many ideas." The first few tweets he's made since the announcement are all about Fallout, and yes people have asked where he's going, he doesn't answer. Avellone has also done tons of work with various developers where he goes in to help provide lore and writing lately. Yknow, like how that recent article mentioned Bungie helped Bethesda with shooting mechanics, Avellone has helped others with writing.

At worst and most likely, he trollin'. In this case I just found it funny.

At perhaps more reasonable, I wonder if he's had contact with Bethesda lately.
At best....yeah don't wanna say and get my hopes up cause there's no way.

So you're wondering if he's written for Fallout 4?

He was probably just at E3 and checked out Fallout 4. But to be honest, i would want him on the Bethesda writing team, i don't see it happening though.

Not on a large scale, but he's done a LOT of "guest work" lately for various different companies.

I call it trolling cause I mean....he left his company, went silent, and the first thing he does is post Fallout pictures while ignoring questions from people and even from Brian Fargo (dev at another company that's speculated to want him). It's not really anything concrete at ALL. This is not evidence of anything. But I sit here like "dude you GOTTA know this would get people's hopes up. You gotta."

So I wonder if Avellone is trolling or if he's had some connection to Bethesda or Fallout, whether it be FO4 or future titles.

If they havn't already, Beth should hire Chris asap before they start getting outclassed, majorly.

GG's Horizon hired one of obsidian's lead writers and world builders from both bethesda/cdpr. So likely an amazing story, and It looks a gen ahead of FO4 and has no load screens.

Wasn't exactly a personal attack, more a "see this guy you praise and tout as the greatest writer of fallout, it looks like he likes the bethesda games"

Ah, well who knows.

If Bethesda got him to do freelance work, that'd be nice.

Now if they hired him full time, well, they damn well need good writers don't they :P

I just know I'm annoyed, cause I'm torn between "lol this isn't evidence of anything at all" and "BUT WHY IS HE TALKING ABOUT FALLOUT SO MUCH, WRITERS DO STUFF WITH PURPOSE."

Either Avellone is a hilariously cruel troll or we might get a nice surprise. Not holding my breath but also can't look away.

While his departure from Obsidian was too recent to have allowed him to do much with the base Fallout 4 game, it's not impossible that he might be involved in a DLC ... maybe even one that takes us back to previously tread ground.

Doubt it, though. I don't know of any reason they would be keeping a lid on it at this point in time now that Fallout 4 has been unveiled.

Didn't inXile registered the Van Buren trademark lately? Avellone did lots of work on Wasteland 2 and more recently on the Torment game...both inXle titles.... Hm, i wonder what Fargo got up his sleeve after The Bard's Tale 4...Hm...

(Wishful Thinking)

Avellone is entitled to talk Fallout. He was there in the beginning. My opinion though.
